I have to question if that still works fully analog and if that still checks all the boxes for what Vinyl listening people really want.

To be honest, I do kinda like it when there is an occasional crack or pop on an old Jazz or Blues record...
I don't want perfect sound , i just want the lack of perfection or easy use of LP's

Music is always there, car, computer, playlists radio.. i don't listen to it properly

But with a record.. i have to do some effort..
put the old record away
find new one get it out of the sleeve..
throw it on the platter,
turn on amp
turn dial to loud
put the needle on the record

And then I listen with a lot more focus and enjoyment...


Most people have so many records anyway that they rotate them to the point they'll never wear out..

Sure if you have 1 record on repeat for ever.. get that lasuuuuuur :D

Does the linear arm in any way change or improve the way the needle sits on the groove?
are they more or less sensitive to skipping?

SL-1900 is very similar, but more home use spec..
it also has pitch control, but not in a slider which DJ's want.

And much cheaper...

Alternative for the SL1200 range is a JB systems Disco 1100
It's pretty much an SL1200 clone, I had em when i was 16 and was doing local DJ stuff.. Other the the snobbery of it aint a real technichs, they were pretty equal to the Technics.. but no , not for audiofiles ..

The linear tracking arm mimics the way a record is actually cut on the
original lacquer. I believe also eliminates anti skating issues. I have
not noticed it being either more or less sensitive to skipping.
Theoretically it should improve the way it sits in the groove, but that
is also related to the cartridge and stylus design,material and shape.
It works for me.

cool, I may have to snap me one of them Technics linear ones , they got some nice looking ones and in any case this kind of gear is not going to loose value over time innit

A huge PIA to service. Friend of mine ownes a stereo/record shop and services vintage tables. He finally stopped taking in Gerard tables.

Don’t know about that specific table but generally speaking a pain

Some of the best ones I've heard recently are from Pear Audio and the new line of Rega Planar tables.

Okay, I'll stay on topic for you. My 1970's vintage Techniques SL7 quartz direct drive linear tracking with Ortofon cartridge still plays my old rock n' roll vinyl fine enough to satisfy my old ears.
