anyone use the Lansky Diamond sharpening system?
allow me to preface this:
i am fairly proficient with Japanese water-stones. i have enough of those. i do however have a few "coated" blades. i tend to let the occasional swipe on a waterstone go wide and i will scratch up the side of a satin blade. all fine, but on a black coated blade..no bueno. i am looking for better precision. plus, the same knives have some modern steels that take a long time grinding away in a waterstone slurry. Lansky is sub $100 with the mounting base. diamond hones. reviews seem fine. any PPOT users? some honest reviews? seems easy enough. ONLY ASKING ABOUT THE LANSKY. ![]() i dont need to hear about Wicked-Edge, the latest WorkSharp, etc. i KNOW you all have opinions. ![]()

I have one, it works well esp if the edge is in real bad shape.
I cannot however get a knife as sharp with it as I can a stone. |

I have the regular $50 set and it works well. The carving knife can shave 1/32" from the edge of the paper in file little curls*. Even the cheap pocket knife I carry can shave the hair on the back of your neck. I imagine the diamond is better/more precise.
* Most decently sharp knives/hatchets/axes can cut down the middle of paper.

Yes and no. I don't have the Lansky 4 stone diamond system. I have the much cheaper (what I could afford when I bought it) Lansky 3 stone (non-diamond) system that I eventually added the stone for serrated blades to. It works really well. I can make the blades shave and you never have to wonder about the angle. If you're REALLY anal about things, the angle will change a bit from the tip to the belly to the heel, especially for longer blades.
I use water stones for the kitchen knives.

Use it. Love it.
The blade mounting on the holder has some tips needed. There are two screws to tighten. Use them so the blade is gripped evenly. Shoot me a pm for more tips. |

I've used the Lansky set for decades. Probably the only way I can get a blade truly sharp. Great product.

I've got the 4 stone system - non diamond. It does a fantastic job on knives I've sharpened.

Well. Caution thrown to the wind.
None of my waterstones seem able to cut M390 steel really well. Lanksy is on the way. Amazon is a fastass shipper!

Whoa. Just whoa.
It worked. A few things; the clamp is kinda retarded. But I wrapped some gaffer’s tape around the tips and it’s solid. Didn’t mar my blade, held solid. Gaffers tape is kinda grippy from the fabric based backing. Comes off with zero tackiness, as it’s designed for. I watched a video and went to town. I got it close and finished on ceramic. It cuts so aggressively I felt like I was playing chicken. I’m shocked how sharp it is. I left it toothy, do it micro saws thru things. Thanks fellas fir the encouragement.

Cool, good to hear that it worked well for you. I like mine that's not diamond.
