The Command Unit
Picked this up yesterday. The guy who owned it provided medical support for local sporting events--minor league baseball team, track events, etc. Hence the get-up.
It's a 1999 Silverado LS with 237,000 miles on it, and it runs like a watch. New brakes, tires, amazing interior, and everything works, including the AC. I paid the asking price of $1800, and got there just before the horde, as these LS-equipped trucks are really popular. They usually have trashed interiors and non-working AC at this price point, not to mention the obligatory non-matching fender or two. This thing is cherry. The best part, though, are the police lights front and rear and a PA/siren system, all of which are still functional, if illegal to use while driving. My original plan was to remove the graphics and the emergency equipment, but people seem to get out of my way as if by magic! It looks a bit like a Forest Service truck. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560356515.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560356515.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560356515.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1560356515.JPG |
They must not use salt on the roads there, those rocker panels would have rusted off 150k miles ago here .
Last of the really good simple trucks . |
Wow, nice score!! Yeah, leave it as is.
|
No salt out here.
|
Spend a couple of dollars and get the front seats recovered and put in a modern stereo and it would be PERFECT.
|
parking just got easier..and i see ZERO parking tickets in your future.
|
You are the master of your domain in your "Command Unit"....nice truck with no visible flaws, for a really good price, yea, keep it as is !
|
Parking? Just surround it with longhoods...take some pictures :)....
Nice! |
I thought this was going to be a thread about your wife... ;)
Sa-weet! It's kind of fun driving around in what others mistake for some sort of an "official" vehicle. Similarly, way back in the year 2000 when I bought my first Harley Road King, it puzzled me at first why everyone in front of me slowed down as I pulled in behind them, and many would move out of my way. Then it occurred to me that I sometimes wore the same white half helmet that the police wear, and wore the exact same police style leather jacket. Once I figured it out, our crowded roads became my oyster... :D |
It's all fun until someone runs up to you and says some lady is having a baby and needs your help.
|
I'm pretty sure those red lights in front would be illegal here in CA on a privately owned vehicle.
Nice truck, what engine does it have in it. |
How much does a door mirror cost?

This 98 1500 I just purchased has a 5.7L and the smaller V8 is a 5.0. Believe the 98 was the last year for those engines in the 1500. 270hp in the 99 5.3 and 260 in my 5.7L. OP's truck is clean. I just live down the road (120 miles) from fastfred. As he stated, we don't see them like that. |

Maybe it’s just blue flashing lights that are illegal? Who knows I live here and care less than some of you all that don’t live here. |
Nice score!
|
I care...that that’s a helluva deal. Great score, Madcorgi!
