Show of hands; who knew you could do this?

Just got back from camping. Took care of the truck. Phase one was oils change. Pouring slowly I make very little mess. No funnel. I was pouring and just wondered. DUH!

I honestly did not know you could do that. While I have always left my vehicles upright while I change the oil, I might have to try that next time.

Yes. Of course, you have a chicken-vs-egg issue for that first quart....

Tipped the vehicle on it's side to make it easier to pour the oil.

You can cut the side out of a empty 5 quart jug to use for a drain pan too.

Or you can pay the local guy $40 to do that, rotate the tires, check the tranny fluid, top off the windshield and headlight fluids and dispose of the hazmats for you.

You can do the same with urea in a Touareg in a pinch. So I guess I did know - although I have a bunch of funnels to make life easier.

I see now. Pretty clever. The problem with funnels is you have an oily funnel to clean up when you’re finished. So you make yourself a disposable funnel. I like it.

I too like the disposable funnel strategy. That said, today I changed oil in a 2009 Rabbit and 1012 Mazda 5 with no funnels, no hits, no runs, no errors.

I was looking in the garage today for something and saw I had three of those home made funnels.

or you put the dripping funnel in a plastic bin cause its whats on the bench and after a while you have a dirty funnel, plastic bin with oil in the bottom and drips all over the place.

yep, that's the smart way to do it!

I’m also ashamed at how dirty my air filter was. Talk about neglecting my duties.

You could just tip it on its side and shake it out. Like your truck.

These bottles work GREAT for funnels, with bottom cut off.

Yeah, but how are you going to spill clean engine oil all over the exhaust manifolds, and serpentine belt doing it that way?
