Today is car maintenance class in my kids summerschool !

We made him take summer classes, otherwise, he will just fester and play video games all day .
Last 2 weeks, every day , they taught a different life task, how to make Macaroni and Cheese, and some basic cooking skills, taught some basic home maintenance skills the other day, laundry, how to balance a check book, and make deposits ..
I was surprised to find out today was car maintenance day . My kid has zero interest in any of it, but he has grown up immersed in it all. Maybe he can teach them a thing or 2
Kudos to the school, to attempt to give the kids some simple skills that may actually help them through everyday life.

Great they are doing that. You should volunteer. People should at least know how to check oil, change a tire, what to do if warning lights come on.

You sent your kid out in COVIDWORLD??

I'm kidding. Those kind of classes are the only chance that society has to survive (in general, because everyone is soft and lazy). Who designs them, who teaches them? Maybe we need to get together with our neighbors (the ones over 30 years old...) and create some "life classes", where everyone contributes their particular skill set, and teaches all of the kids for a 3 block radius.

Good stuff man, today's younger generation is too reliant on the 'gig' economy. There's an app to hire people to perform the most basic services. What happens when any link in that chain breaks? Now you'll have to do 'it'' for yourself. .........but wait I dont know how.

Good to hear this, Fred.

What grade is he in?

This would have been a perfect opportunity for you to step in and share some of your accumulated skills but I guess they made other arrangements. Is the teacher him/herself doing the instructing or do they have guest speakers?

Sounds like he's a pre-teen? I'm glad to read that some schools are making an attempt at trying to teach useful life skills, but kids need critical thinking skills more than ANYTHING now. They have grown reliant on their smart phones. They think everything on Google and Reddit is accurate. They would not know how to figure out anything on their own, using their own brains. Examples of that behavior in adults are also becoming so few, and so hard to find it's disturbing. People are becoming flock creatures.

Good deal.

They need to teach the kids how to understand credit and debt.

That's Fantastic!!!

My wife and I always said they should teach life skills, but especially budgeting and finance.
