People have backup generators and i figure in room AC units are a similar necessity in TX.

That's my Plan B.

I keep a 5K window unit installed year round. Runs off 110v and just plugs into a regular outlet.

Not very expensive at all (Home Depot for $169)

Not very noisy at all like the older ones were when I grew up in the 60's. Comes in very handy when your central system goes out.

I have it running right now even though my central system is working, just to reduce the load of my central system, and hopefully extend it's lifespan.

And if we get an extended power outage from a hurricane I can run it off my portable generator.

It's average summer temperature here. It's always hot in summer, duh.

Oklahoma City has yet to hit 100 this summer.

It has been crazy humid after all the rain. We have had the 5th wettest July ever. Everything is GREEN and growing.

Yep, it is summer, July is sorta hot. August is often hotter.

We had our first GOOD rain a couple nights ago; I love it. Water was flowing off the roof like there was a river running over my house. This time of year is my favorite--monsoon season in the desert is truly beautiful. We've been getting wetter the past 3-5 years, which I'm pretty darn happy about (even WITH the little extra humidity) and they promised this summer to be REALLY wet but so far it's not come to fruition. Hoping we get a bunch more rain in the coming month or so.

New record in Death Valley: 116 @ midnight.

I find as I get older it's the sun that kills me much more than the temperature.
Is it just me?

I was in trial last two days and had to break out my briefcase with wheels to get my stuff two blocks up the street to the courthouse.

Yesterday we finished around 4:15. By the time I walked back to my office in the 100+ degree heat the wheels on the briefcase had split into two pieces from the heat of the sidewalk.

Unbelievable. It gets its name honestly. My neighbor the outdoors and explorer type went out to DV a couple or 3 years ago to 'experience' 130º. No thanks.

Yea, evidently lots of people are going out there, just to get a photo of themselves next to the thermometer at 125+ degrees.

It was 118 when I went through Needles, CA several years back. I stopped to pee, and it was just brutal getting from my car to the building and back into my 911.

I hear Phoenix is breaking all time records with the longest streak of 110+ temps.

Ironically I ordered my winter supply of pellet fuel today.

Lowes had Halloween decorations FS this past weekend. Just 2 weeks ago it was 'back to school'.

Wow! That’s crazy…..

And just think, all of those jackapes that decide to take their dogs for walk on hot days and don’t think about the heat on their dogs paws. K9 boots does wonders….

I measured a temp of 157.8 degrees on our driveway last week.

Decided to go up one size to this 6K unit. It was still very reasonable at $229. and I like the slightly higher capacity rating.....

It stays in it's box until needed. ;)

Here in North county Eastern situated from San Diego our town of Escondido is as usual 95-100F a day for the next while, late October is when it reliably cools down. Nighttime temps drop to mid 70s at worst.

We have hit 100º a few times, and 99º most days for the past couple/few weeks.

I am hoping it breaks somewhat before I start my in-air conditioned trip from Scottsdale to Carmel. I can be in Needles by 8 but the run from there to Barstow and then Bakersfield is brutal if it is above 105
