It's too hot for some steel :eek:

That reminds me of a problem we had in the neighborhood years ago. We came into work Monday morning and there was a green blob melted on the street. It took us a few minutes, but we realized it was the remnants of a Porta Jon somebody had burned flat into the asphalt.

Given the relentless heat, gotta figure my plan for Phoenix/Carmel in my non-AC ‘69 for car week. I’ll roll either 6 or 7 August given heat/rain. Typically I like to do Wickenberg, Parker, Needles, Barstow, Bakersfield. Fewer trucks and a nice drive through the edge of the Mojave from Parker to Needles. But that way I won’t drive out of the heat until I stop, 8ish hours. The hated way is I 10 through or around LA, where I can drive out of the heat at say Banning or Beaumont, 6ish hours.
No matter which way, leave at 4AM as the heat is subsiding. Drive fast, windows down, plenty of cold water, sports drinks, my fan mister. Will see some of you at the Monday Seaside Porsche get together and Werks. |
Having just posted I started to look at portable AC units. Does anyone have experience with any of the ones that Amazon sells? https://www.walmart.com/ip/Portable-Mini-Car-Air-Cooler-Fan-Air-Conditioner-Fan-Personal-Space-Cooler-Air-Cooling-Fan-for-Home-Office/867581809

Here is a terrible story about someone who took their infant boating on a 120 deg day and the infant died. Tragic but what were they thinking?

The parents kept the BABY in the heat too many hours while they drank on their Boat. I was there that weekend, it was 120 that day on Lake Havasu. |
I was up in Michigan for a couple of weeks and heard the most ridiculous government PSA on the radio. It started out stating that the average temperature in Michigan had risen 2 degrees (the average summer temp in Mich is around 80). It then went on in some detail about the perils (including death!) of dehydration and heat stroke and what the hapless citizens must do to prevent said death. Thank god for PSAs otherwise I'm fairly certain bodies would be stacked up in the streets
So people in Mich are in danger of dying because the average summer temp has gone from 80 to 82? It's pure, unadulterated political propaganda to feed the perception that the planet is on the verge of spontaneous combustion. BTW, being from FL I was pretty much wearing long pants and sleeves the entire visit and was quite comfortable. :D |

It was over 90/90 here in NWNJ. Reminds me of summers when I was a boy.

The summer sun quickly faded our Red Bull race car into a pink bull.:)
