Interesting thread.

I am happy that it worked out for you, SW.

There were two main reasons I sold my 356: Field of view and the fact that other drivers often failed to see the RED 356 because it is so small.

When I am operating any motor vehicle I replicate the "scan" I was taught in flight school: In/Out, side to side, mirrors. In the 356 I'd have to crouch down to get a full field of view. I hated it.

The last straw was when I was driving on north on Rte 244 and was approaching Chingville Road. I was staying on Rte 244, a really nice rural road, headed home. See pic.

I am at least six car length behind a large pick-up. He signals that he is turning right on Chingville. There is a sedan at the stop sign on Chingville. I can see she is looking right...as the pick-up begins his turn, it is clear to me that she did not see me in the 356 - the entire car was blocked from her view when she looked back to her left.

There is no one behind me so a brake hard: She pulls out right in front of me and is astonished when she see me for the first time, scary and humorous at the same time.

I would have hit her.

Anyway. Always scan and treat all intersections with great care.

Not too long ago I was turning right into a parking lot to a gas station. Some lazy idiot driver was just driving on the wrong side of the exit to save the effort to steer with the power steering. I stopped, just off of the road and they started pounding on their steering wheel like I was going to back up into the street to make it easy on them. I just put my El Camino in Park, and folded my arms. We had a standoff. He finally got mad enough to back up, and go out a different exit, on the proper side of the road, and peeled out in a huff. I just pulled forward and bought my gas. I wanted to go tell him, in the USA and most all of the America's we drive on the right side of the road, not the left in two way situations.

Back in High School when most of my buddies were driving cars like VW bugs, Toyotas, Datsuns and a Morris Minor, one guy had a real mussel car. A 69 Dodge Charger with a Hemi. I was riding with him down a country road that had no lane strips or much signage. He pulled out to pass someone and another car pulled out of a hidden drive and headed straight at us. Instead of backing off and pulling back behind the slower car, he punched it. He managed to make it past the slow car and back into the right lane with moments to spare. I had about soiled my trousers.

One of my neighbors. Backed out, didn't look for traffic, and blocked both lanes diagonally for at least a minute. Too lazy to complete backing out, and pulled forward on the wrong side.
