Incredibly bad advice but coming from you I'm not surprised.

Do NOT buy without CPO status. The front timing cover reseal that almost every one of these will end up needing is over 20 hours labor. Probably the slight oil seep is why the dealer doesn’t want to CPO.

Too bad you're not closer. I have a 2018 Macan S, I am trying to sell. They are great cars but I have an Audi RS3 on order and need it gone. Honestly, if you aren't used to all those nanny controls, they will be turned off most of your time. I don't have adaptive cruise but do have the parking assist: it is very sensitive. A dip in the road, it beeps. Being in a drive-through beeping constantly. The lane change thing is auditory; if the radio is on, you will not hear the beeping when you cross the lines. I do like the blind spot warning; it is a flashing light in the mirror to let you know someone is there. If you put on your signal and a car is in the space the light flicker increases. That being said: for an suv the Macan S can pick up and go. That base 2.0 doesn't. It is very comfortable on long drives and the gas mileage on those long drives is better than I would expect at about 26-27mpg. Around town I drive in sport mode exclusively: it sounds better and the throttle response is better.

I can't speak to longevity because mine has 19K miles on it but I don't see any oil consumption or any other red flags at this point. Good luck in your search.

A second thought: Would the dealer offer an extended warranty?

2018 S model with 19K on the clock for ….$?

I would consider this one. As Java says, drive it home cross country, no big woop

I am asking $53,000 but open to offers.

Thanks for pointing this one out. Is there a "list" of the major known issues somewhere. I've been spending a lot of time on the Google but sifting through 800 pages of complaints about sensitive parking sensors isn't helpful.........

It’s a really good product with the exception of using aluminum bolts in the timing cover. And a DIY guy could repair it easily. Porsche recommends an entire front engine reseal.

So, the dealer came back with $38.5k on it with a new windscreen and with a CPO warranty. Confirmed it is well maintained including a full brake job 4,000 miles ago. I'm looking at a few others but my wife likes this one a lot and it has the bells/whistles she wants and a few I want as well including PASM which I'm finding not many used ones have. She likes the Adaptive Cruise which also seems quite rare. One thing I learned is that if it did not come with roof rails from the factory they can't be added. We need that for bikes and the rocket box. A lot of them came with no roof rails. Anyway, the ease of a local deal is leaning me in that direction. I'll see what she wants to do. I did find a nice 2017, not as many options but 2 years left on the Porsche warranty for $50k which seems like a decent price. I expect more used will be out there soon but she would like to do something sooner vs. later and so would I to get this out of my brain.

I did talk with my Indy mechanic today. He thinks pretty highly of them. He has seen one customer car that has had the timing cover leak issue but under the factory warranty so it went back to the dealer. His customers have otherwise had great luck with them reliability wise.

Jerry it is a car don't fall in love.....

I'm assuming you searched used Porsches at https://nationalpreownedporsche.com/

Would that timing cover be under the CPO warranty?

Ha, tell that to my wife. Something about this car, she has fallen for it. We drove a new RDX last night. I would buy that. She much preferred the Macan. This is one of several I presented to her and it's the one. I'm ok now they are including the warranty.

Yes, spent a lot of time on that site. Find a Macan with CPO for under $40k with this build sheet you cannot. The timing chain cover was part of the discussion today with the dealer, the CPO would cover it.

Finally got home with this thing. The dealer CPO'd the car, wife is thrilled. It is the most loaded 2015 or later S I've seen after much searching including the national Porsche locator. Very well maintained locally at our dealer. I'd rather buy something with higher miles knowing the service history than lower miles and not. They have ordered a few things for it including a new windshield as it has a chip in it. My wife still can't believe she likes a car this much! We'll see how the next few years go with it. If well, I have my eyes on it when she gets a newer one.

Sadly this means her Lexus RX330 I bought from Denis in 2015 will go up for sale. It has been an amazing car for us.

Beautiful car. Even more beautiful wife. Good on you.

She certainly looks happy, and darn cute, congratulations (on both accounts :D)!

They are really good vehicles and fun to drive. Have proved quite reliable so far. We seem to only service the ones we see, no real repairs to date. My father has a 2017 Turbo and it is a hoot to drive. It is wasted on his 80 year old driving skills but that is for another topic....

Cheers

Jerry, congrats! Happy wife (and she sure looks happy) = happy life :)
