Falcon Heavy launch with hi def sound. Sonic booms!
Here is our vid of the latest Falcon Heavy night launch in 1080p and hi def sound. A pretty great launch experience at 2:30 AM. Wear headphones and turn it up for best experience!

That is pretty cool. I'm assuming this was a launch out of FLA not CA.
How far from the launch pad was the camera located?

Thanks Scott, yes, Cape Canaveral FL. We were about 13mi from the launch pad and 8mi from the booster LZ.

I've always wanted to see a launch in person. Last time we were in the area, launch was delayed.

I need to put a launch from VBAF base on my list of must do things. I've worked on enough things that are up in space I should at least treat myself to a launch.

Yes, it was delayed 3 hours at both FH launches we witnessed. Always better to check and double-check rather than blow stuff up on the pad. This one resulted in a very long night in the Florida humidity but it was worth it.

Of course. Not complaining, just relating a missed opportunity.
Thank you for sharing.

Wow, great video with great sound. I was a kid, 11 yo, when the first space shuttle launched. It didn't seem that amazing to me then, but my parents were astounded by it. I know what they felt now, because for me the ability to have a rocket come down and perform a controlled landing standing up the way they used to make it look in sci-fi movies is amazing to me.
I consider myself lucky to have caught a good Shuttle launch, one of the last ones. I haven't seen a night launch, but I'd love to. My mom lives in Vero Beach and can see night launches from her house.

![]() Bought this poster at cape Kennedy on vacation with dad, probably around '74. No longer have it, but I've always been fascinated by this image. ![]()

Cool video...especially that landing. The sonic booms were a surprise at the end...especially to my dog!
While in FLA one time, I was lucky enough to watch a Space Shuttle night launch from about three miles away. The sound in the video reminded me of that event. You see the rocket light off and all is silent for a few seconds, then this wall of sound washes over the viewing area and you're feeling it in your chest almost as much as hearing it in your ears. The rocket's flame turned night into day...you could've read by the light it put out.

I've seen a Minuteman III launch from their on-base observation point, then ran inside and watched the reeentry vehicles come down on Kwaj soon thereafter. It was a clear night in February and we could see all three stages of lift. When they do test launches they send lots of maintainers and missileers from that missile's home base. These kids were from Minot and they didn't seem too sad to spend a few weeks in SoCal. Someday maybe I'll get to see it from the "catching" end of the flight... I want to see it again, or a commercial launch, from somewhere further away. Where's a good vantage point for that? I think they always launch to the south from VAFB. It'd be cool to see from the beach somewhere, or from a mountain above the soup.

My dad worked on Minuteman back in the early days. Somewhere I've got a picture of a transporter erector undergoing a deep freeze test. Couldn't imagine how they got such a big building cold enough to do that.

Back in the 60s my dad also worked on the Titan/Minuteman project and we used to go out to the back yard in the evening to watch the latest launch from Vandenberg. We are seeing a space exploration renaissance right now and my brother and I have made an effort to see as many as possible.
Space X looks to be very busy for the next few years with lots of commercial and government payloads in their launch manifest. Get out and see one to witness the roar for yourself.

We can see them from where we are in the OC but it is from afar for sure.
Thought I might get to see the last Space-X heavy launch but my trip up to my brother's place got delayed so I didn't make it.

Many years ago, I was living in Tampa, FL, and the radio announced that if you looked east you should be able to see the space shuttle because it had just launched. I ran outside and sure enough, I was easily able to watch the shuttle. That was, to me, very impressive.

Divide by 1115 feet per second for the speed of sound in air = 61.6 seconds for sound to arrive. Maybe a second or so for thrust to spool up. Sound kicks in at 63 seconds. Damn, that's spot on.
