I felt it here in the Temecula area, pretty strong but nothing falling off the shelves
|
3 quakes...Ridgecrest area ..8:20 PM
5.0 7.1 revised down to 6.9 revised back to 7.1 4.7 Felt her in LV and felt stronger than yesterdays... |
Good long shake here in Castaic, lasted about a minute. Definitely stronger than the last one.
|
I was brushing my teeth and felt nothing. My wife was checking email and said she felt the room shake a bit. SoCal is due for a major shake for sure. Could be as soon as I hit the "Post Quick Reply" button or 100 years after I am dust. Stock up on water and supplies my friends.
|
I'm moving back to Arizona in a few weeks, maybe this is God telling me to hurry up?
 |
You can join the rest of he az nuts saying they moved out of socal before la cracked off and fell in the pacific :D
|
There will probably be more over the next month.
|
as long as I get this house sold before the San Andreas shears off and returns the San Gabriels back into sea floor where it was a zillon years ago
|
Yeah, it lasted maybe about a minute for us and got stronger to the end.

my SIL just called, they live in Apple Valley, she said the water was splashing out of their pool. |
Lots of energy is being released in the fault zones in that area...

I remember visiting Arco Sante when I was a kid, I think its still open but I'll have to look it up |
Lowered my 911 down to the ground (on my 2 post lift) from working under it earlier, just to be safe. Looks like I guessed right.
Was in a movie theatre and was evacuated. Got Regal Readmission tickets though. Was watching the Beatles movie "yesterday". We were enjoying it but only half way thru. Don't spoil the ending for me..... |
We were at the Jethro Tull concert at the local casino. Show just started when it started shaking..... our seats were in the risers 15 rows up and on the end.
The place emptied. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562387661.jpg |

Not sure if he continued the show or not. Probably half the audience ran for the exit. Worth it? My wife’s birthday and the tickets were a gift from her boss. And I won a couple hundred playing blackjack before the concert! |
Pretty good shaker here in Redondo Beach.
I don't get all the panic, doesn't bother me. Lasted for a while. SmileWavy |

It was a longish slow roller here in Tustin.
My Uncle up in Portland recorded it on his seismograph at home. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1562392972.jpg |
Another small one..
|
Tabs, you almost sound disappointed.

There isn't any "panic", just serious and justified concern. Simply because this event was in a relatively remote, sparsely populated region should not make us blase about earthquakes. 7.1 is huge. Period. The Sylmar quake of 1971 was a 6.5. The Northridge quake of 1994 was a 6.7. Those two quakes killed scores of people and caused billions of dollars in damages. Just like real estate, it's location, location, location. No, it's not panic. It's a reminder of the inevitable and a call for preparedness. |

We are a mile from the San Andreas and feel small quakes everyday. A 7.1 centered in Palm Desert and there will be mass panic from the majority not prepared. Redondo Beach will be floating towards Catalina! |

Torrance owns 1 mile of beach between Redondo and Palos Verdes. There is already a Torrance beach. |

I’m not sure which theory to believe anymore! 1..... a lot of small quakes keep a big one from happening. 2......a lot of small ones are leading up to a big one. I’ve been here through the “big” ones like Sylmar and Northridge and those were big but will be considered medium if the San Andreas ever really lets loose. |
"And if California slides into the ocean
Like the mystics and statistics say it will I predict this motel will be standing until I pay my bill..." Warren Zevon |
The really scary fact is that the main fault is the San Andreas, and right under LA it becomes a subduction fault, while the rest is a fast moving strike slip fault. When the North American plate shatters due to the subduction around LA, it is going to be like Hell was unleashed on Earth.
This 7.1 or whatever is only a small part of the NA plate fracturing out from the LA subduction zone and releasing a small percentage of the energy that has been built up. It's probably not a bad idea to start to think about disaster preparedness. |
