The Mid-Engine Porsche 911 RSR has arrived!

The Porsche 911 RSR: the company’s mid-engined GT racer is here! It's a pretty big update from what we initially saw in 2016. Porsche said, "The only components that we’ve kept unchanged from the predecessor are the headlights, brake system, clutch, driver’s seat and parts of the suspension." One of the big updates was increasing the NA flat-six engine from 4.0L to 4.2L, which is said to be a new unit able to produce 510bhp. From it they can expect better drivability over a wider rev-band when compared to the old engine. Can't wait to hear it!

Porsche said the engine is accented with a 'more rigid' six-speed sequential gearbox that shifters faster and more efficiently. You can see the new exhaust pipe placement giving them the ability for better rear aero that produces more downforce. It'll be taking to the track September 1st at the first round of the WEC season at Silverstone. Customer teams won't be able to purchase one for themselves until 2020/2021. ![]() ![]() ![]() Source here |

Well, now that it's begun, no turning back. Might be the end of the rear engine era for Porsche altogether.

Awesome, can't buy a street mid engined 911, or a 2 door M8, Can buy a Ford GT on a limited offer, The only car in the class that has the most ties to its Street version is the Corvette and it is mandated to run less cubes than one can buy at the dealer. Long Live the BS of BOP! I love Porsches but this class is ridiculous

Why IMSA let Porsche do thi$$$$$ is interesting. We don't sell one, especially last year, but we can't compete so here ya go? Much like the M8 but BMW must not of offered enough $$ and I can't stand those pigs on the track

So they move the engine forward into the area of the back seat that almost no one ever sat in.

So is the transmission where the engine used to be? I guess with all the electronics of the new transmissions the shift linkage will not be the vague thing like a 914-6. That is the future of the 911 street car. Corvette has the mid engine car coming out this year after 40 years of teasing about it. The future Le Mans top class is supposed to be the hyper car. I can see Porsche making a street version of a mid engine 900 HP 911. It will be something to drool about but make the GT2RS look cheap and slow.
