I’ve posted this on the fixing thread, but I’d figure I would post it here too.
Anyone here “Fixin” old upholstery or making their own? I just was shocked into reality when I asked a local shop for a quote to make some basic cushions for our VariEze. I am not looking for free or a bro deal, but when he said….. “at a minimum, your looking at it just starting at $2000.00”. I did not tell him it was for an airplane either. I had to try very hard not to show my “WTF-face”, said thank you, that gives me a starting point and quickly dashed back to my car. What it’s going in, front seat and rear seat. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8ebefb6185.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...167e61a125.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4692777f92.jpg Per the plans,https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...397fd79842.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0053c95152.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d6e1d9e951.jpg Might need to start looking for a good used commercial sewing machine with all the accouterments. Bugs, there is an upholsterer in the same building where 2 of the antiques dealers I work for have a shop. He's at least 2nd generation and moving slowly due to the work and his age. Therefore, he is selective. He can do Victorian furniture, or boats and RV's. I think he uses a lot more sq yds of material on boats, etc. so he gets more money for the same amount of time.
If you were to bring him an old side chair he'd probably have the fabric in stock along with all the internal supplies to rebuild the chair. I say 200 to 400 depending. But I bet he says 750 just to get you to go away. Now, that 4000 dollar RV 2 chairs and convertible couch gets right in the door. Might even be more than that. But you get the point. All that stuff is cheap foam and gun staples after an hour or 2 to sew in some piping. |

Hangar Financing———-
Hey guys, I was wondering for those that have done this before, if you had any pointers or suggestions for creative financing for a hanger? I have an opportunity for a much larger box hanger at the local airport. However, the cowboy doesn’t have the resources to be able to just drop cash on the whole thing, so I’m looking at financing. Financing can be a bit of a issue with hangers since most hangers at local airport? you don’t own the land and it’s a land lease for the hangar, so therefore causing the dilemma. Pointers, suggestions and comments are more than welcome. Thanks guys for your time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

^^^ Ercoupe.
Friend of mine owned one. Two flights for me! |
for sale in town. could probably get it for 20. but then hanger and annual and insurance and fifteen other things.
a little weird initially, but the easiest thing to fly once used to it. |

Neat plane that you need No-Doz to fly. |
i have motorcycles with a higher top speed. much higher. i get my thrills from them. this would be a toy to take my wife shopping in anchorage with.
just a daydream at this point. |
Oh, I love the plane but it is a really cool grocery getter.
Do you have a PPL? |

Yes. Well, had. But haven’t flown in fifteen years. And wasn’t getting much time before that. Should almost start over. |

I haven’t held a qual in 15 plus years as well. I am now a Sunshine Aviator...CAVU daylight runs with folks I trust is my aviation menu. Gas on me:) I’ll post pics. Out with the Pup. |
I once owned the Mooney variant of the Ercoupe...the M10 Cadet. Used to take my wife up over LA at night with the top canopy back -convertible style.

Mike is that Van Nuys circa 1980s?
|
That is Brackett Field KPOC in LaVerne/Pomona. I had an avionics business there in the late 1980s...
Fun factoid, - at the end of the runway across the road is the Pomona Drag Strip. |
