Here’s a view that shows the low mounted tail surfaces on the Thud. My dad (Ranger Bob) will be 88 in November and we go to the museum every Father’s Day weekend. He is a wealth of knowledge on military history and frequently has some information to add that the docents didn’t know. |
Just had a Canso (Catalina) fly up the Valley. Last time I saw one in the air must have been 15 -20 years ago. I hate to think of 16 hour patrols in those.

I would have thought they tied down the aircraft between missions?
A link From the above post, talk about a F18 blowing off a carrier in the Mediterranean a couple years ago. I would’ve thought that would’ve been tied down as well. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/f-a-18-super-hornet-on-uss-harry-s-truman-blown-off-deck-in-mediterranean-sea-due-to-unexpected-heavy-weather/ |

Flying tours in Pax River, sort of; the Sikorsky factory, sort of as well...all weather related and not as a routine in normal weather. A friend of mine's son was there and we are going to chat tomorrow...the Squadron Duty Officer (SDO), which rotates daily, according to my friend, got puree'd. I just got off the phone with the Aircraft Commander, a former Marine, of this 53E when I took this picture in Colorado. I had to pee. Not a tie down in sight:D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1719171410.JPG |
Technical Question for you Pilots or Mechanics.
I have a application where I'd like to EGT instrumentation on a twin 1000 four stroke ATV/SxS. Planning on buying a used head pipe to weld in a couple of Bungs for K-type Thermocouples near the heads exhaust port. Would be great to have A/F ratio per cylinder too. Would be cool to use a Aircraft panel gauge with twin needles to easily monitor both cylinders at same needle levels, and when one starts to get too hot it shows the differential. Amazon has Thermocouples and used Avionics EGT twin needle gauges. Anyone help point me in the right direction with websites or links would be fantastic. This is my SxS with 2200 trouble free miles. I run a conservative Tune on it. Blew up the motor 200 miles with cracked and breakout piston rings. It's ALWAYS the right cylinder that blows in these machines. Dealer rebuilt the motor under warranty. It lasted 200 miles before the right piston let go in major fashion. It's simply not there in the cylinder (iceberg size chunks in the lower case. I put my bore scope down the spark plug hole and was greeted by my Wrist Pin, Con Rod, and crank. The piston has simply vaporized and disappeared. Back to a different dealer for rebuild once again under warranty, and as an Electrical Engineer this time I want FACTS and DATA, not rumours or opinion for how my motor is feeling that day. Rich/Lean/Cold/Hot. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1719176154.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1719176320.jpg |

I have one of their volt gauges and a dual CHT gauge installed in my 911. Nice product, reasonably priced, works well. |
