I always thought the Lockheed 10 Electra was sweet. I didn't realize there was a 12 Jr Electra as well. Carried 6 + 2 crew vs 10 + 2 crew. Being smaller, but having the same 450hp engines made it perform better. First flew in 1936. As mentioned earlier in this thread, primarily a Kelly Johnson creation.

I never realized a P-38 had foldable wings. Was that standard?

P38 wings don’t fold. But Tigercat wings do!

Somebody went to AirVenture!

pavulon 07-28-2025 11:00 AM

Correct! Amazing as usual and really warm--also as per the usual. Did you go and if so, what did you think?

Somebody needs to create a 3d printer file for this.

We got there on the Weds before it started to get our camping spot for our group and then left the following Weds during the show. We got parked 10 minutes before the 2-3" rain. Next day we would have buried our 40' diesel pusher trying to drive in the resulting mud.

I got 6 rounds as co-pilot in EAA's 1929 Ford Trimotor on Monday morning hauling rides.
It got stupid hot after that. Traffic/construction on the Indiana turnpike was just awful this year.

They expanded camping even larger this year along with the extended aircraft parking areas to the south.

Food prices went thru the roof. An order of french-fries was $8. I think the burger was $14. Small rootbeer float was $8. Admission was $49 per day. Camping spot in the mud was $39/day.

All that said, It was the busiest I have seen it on Monday and Tuesday. I heard there were 15,000 campsite spots paid for.

2-3" rain just after we arrived.

I did not go and I may be done flying into OSH. Too crazy and dangerous and I fly the Warbird arrival, which is much easier. Too much varied pilot experience and aircraft capabilities combined with some demanding requirements of pilots can spell disaster for some. I have been most of the years I have been pilot (1989) and many of the years prior to that with my father.

It has gotten too big, too crowded, and too dang hot. A victim of its own success I guess.

I read about that. How in the heck did he pull the ejection handles on taxing out for takeoff?
