This has been sitting out in front of the air field in Defuniak Springs, Florida since I was 5 years old. I took the picture a few weeks ago. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...97bdf845d1.jpg

One of the things I enjoyed most about military flight training was the amount of emergencies we practiced on every flight.

Fixed wing primary: High Key, Low Key, how to intercept each and land with an engine failure. I can still do the math in my head.

Helo school: Full power-off autos in a TH-57 Bell Jet Ranger. I can still see the charts, DA versus collective at the end.

You get used to it.

All that said, the pilot in the video did a great job. I really enjoyed the video. Thanks.

The pilot did do a great job. The engine damage looks extensive.

KHIO is surrounded by lots of homes, commercial properties and major industrial facilities (like Intel, Qorvo, and others). It's gotten very crowded out there. Not a lot of options for other places to put down other than highway 26...

Images/videos like this have got to be demoralizing to the Russian aviators. I recently saw video of two pilots ejecting out of a Russian MiG 29.

Military AI vanquishes human fighter pilot in F-16 simulation. How scared should we be?

From the outside, the simulated aerial dogfight the Pentagon held two weeks ago looked like a standard demonstration of close-up air-to-air combat as two F-16 fighter jets barreled through the sky, twisting and diving as they sought an advantage over the other. Time and time again the jets would “merge,” with one or both pilots having just split seconds to pull off an accurate shot. After one of the jets found itself riddled with cannon shells five times in these confrontations, the simulation ended...................................

One concept rapidly entering the mainstream is the so-called Loyal Wingman drone controlled by a nearby manned fighter pilot who instructs the drone's AI agent to perform specific tasks. Basically, the human handles big-picture decision-making, while the AI takes on the risky dirty work of pressing home attacks and drawing away enemy missile fire.

The main rotor on a H-60 actually rotates at 287 RPM, not as fast as most people would thnk.

Thanks again. I have beamed the link to a number of my old rotorhead buddies.

svandamme 03-18-2022 07:54 AM
