Places to eat in southern Florida?

I will be driving my 911 to Florida on July 20th. This year I am picking up my brother in Montgomery, AL and heading to Boca Raton. If any of you Pelicans want to meet up for a beer let me know. I have not had a chance to spend a week alone with my brother in over 40 years. It should a blast. My wife is staying home to spend a week with her mother here.

The main reason for this post is to find some good restaurants in southern Florida. Just seafood, or maybe seafood, or possibly Cajun food or seafood. Don't bother with other types of restaurants please.

On the 25th I will be at Palm Beach International Raceway at about 9:00 AM, and we will be there for 30 or 40 minutes before heading to Big Pine Key. We will want to eat lunch on the way, and likely dinner in Big Pine Key. So two restaurants that day.

On the 26th we head down to Key West early from Big Pine Key, and then head back to Boca Raton to be there by 7:00 PM. So we need a recommendation for a place in the keys. It looks like it is a 4 hour trip from Key West to Boca Raton.

Recap: Lunch on the 25th, around 11:00 to 12:00 south of Palm Beach International Raceway, and the Keys. Dinner in Big Pine Key area.
Lunch on the 26th on the way back to Boca Raton.

I prefer mom and pop or family owned restaurants over chains. I would be happy to meet any of you there.

What say you?

Didn't Flanigans close? Assuming Key West.

If you like local dive bar type if joints hit up Alabama Jack's in Card Sound on your way back from Key West. Their conch fritters are quite different and good.

It is on the water, I learned about it from a guy who works on a NASCAR team seems it is a their go to place when in Homestead.

This is a 26 minute drive east of PBIR and worth every minute of your drive and going out of your way.

By far one of the best seafood places in Palm Beach, they have a permit to buy straight from the boats. Sit at the bar, it overlooks the kitchen which is very interesting.

Buy the crew a round of PBR's for me I can PayPal you the money. It is a menu option.

When in key west one of my favorites places to eat is the half shell raw bar and favorite place for a drink is schooners wharf...I’m sure locals have better suggestions but as I sit here in New York i day dream of those two places often

I have a rule in KW nothing on the water or at the northwest end of Duval.

Turtle Crawls is the worst.

Try this place it is more towards Southernmost. Very small and out of the way.

Also Bo's fish wagon is a must do for us when in town the shrimp po boy is really good. Place is expensive and a craphole but we love those kind of places.

I made the round trip, and I got home yesterday. Just over 4,000 miles total for the trip. My brother and I had a blast. We did manage to eat some seafood for sure!

Where did you end up eating in the Keys? Had I seen this post, I would have suggested Hogfish on Stock Island, or Square Grouper on Cudjoe

Yea where did you eat

Looks like a chiffon white car. That’s what I have. My favorite color on the SC. I would really love to do that drive in my 911. I’ve done it 4 times in rentals and well it’s my happy place. Last time there I did some tarpon fishing and had an enormous shark eat my 180lb tarpon in maybe 2 bites

My car is Grand Prix White, but the trees and the clouds were making spotty lighting.

We stayed with friends at their house in Big Pine Key, and had a big shrimp boil. Key West Pinks on Thursday evening. We felt like family, and they instantly took a liking to my brother. Bob, (the home owner's name) told my brother after 10 minutes "you are almost as shy as Glen" and Bob and his wife are great.

And to be honest, I don't remember the place where we ate. We did not have much time, as we hauled ass back to Boca Raton for the Tech sessions, and dinner.

Well a big shrimp boil with friends sounds about the best thing that one could do. Nice
