A very big explosion

Your typical gamma ray burst, created by a certain type of super nova, lasts for about 2 minutes. During those 2 minutes, the amount of energy released is equivalent to 100 million nuclear bombs going off every second for 100 billion years. And one happens somewhere in the universe every day.

Fortunately in a very large universe, they happen a long long way away.

We were hit by one in 2008, but it came from 7.5 billion light years away. Only astronomers noticed.

What kind of nuclear bomb are we talking? Fat man, Tsar Bomba, B61, W87, RDS-9, VA-111 ? There are orders of magnitude difference in yield making that formula not very accurate.
