How do I test this DC 5-pin? charger?
Hello all,
I've got a conundrum on my hands. I need to test to see if this charger is supplying voltage to the connector, but I hand no idea on which leads to test for power, as it is a 5 lead circular connector of some sort. On the internet, I can find no equivalent of what this connector is called, let alone any standard assignment what the pins do. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks, r |

Looks like it’s designed to take different connectors for different devices .
Stick meter probes in it and see where you get 12vdc , then switch Polarity to see you get -12vdc |

^thanks.
I tested all the pins from every different combination. Nothing. I cut the cover off the Charger. There were only two output wires going through the cable. There was no power to either at the charger. Conclusion- bad charger (vs, bad charging cable). So another question. I spliced the charger cable into a spare working 5v 1000ma charger cable. The device is now registering as "charging" and has added one hour to it's calculated reserve time. There have been no explosions as of yet. In relation to this splice- my question is this. How stupid is this idea, or is it okay? The OE broken charger list (one the back) as "secondary" as 12vdc 700ma..output, but... This battery is a 3.6V 110mah battery. I'm assuming Lithium ion (which could be bad for what I'm doing, requiring voodoo knowledge and quantum charge cycle wisdom , as opposed to nimh). I am also assuming from what I am reading on the internet, the computer (it's an old bike computer) controls charging like a simplified cell phone (but a more prehistoric version of such, where it has a simple timer and turns the power off after x time. This, mind you, is internet heresay, so it MUST be correct. I am also assuming the original power supply I cut into is so complex because it is made to run on either 110 current or European 220 current depending on which plug you put into it. I could be totally wrong. Perhaps all those bells and whistles control the Li-ion voodoo magic charging cycle. Basically, these chargers are now hard to come by, otherwise, I'd just order a new one. I'm just trying to not blow up the computer, or the house, and learn about this stuff, and get the da#$ computer to take a charge (which it is now registering as charging-signified by the "+" sign). This was a fleabay charger LOL!!! And it was the ONLY one there!!! I'm trying to get this to work until I can find my chargers which are laying around the house somewhere. Instead of letting the battery die completely in the meantime, I am going to be proactive and blow it up through my own ignorance!
So far... from 17 to 22 hrs run time. Fingers crossed! ![]() |
