If I yelled 'incoming' they had to hit the dirt and low crawl to cover wherever we were...under the barracks...anything...while I threw rocks at them. Great stress relief.

'Flash flood' they had to get off the ground...up a tree, climb the building, get off mother earth...react.

Last guy up did push ups until the cows came home.....the cows never came home btw.

No. I'd be court-martialed today for being too 'hard' or unfeeling...at least I suspect so.

We could also 'lay hands' on Joe if nec….. it was nec.

I have no proof of this but I "hear" in today's Army you can get a profile or a pass slip if the training becomes too stressful...

No, that is a rumor… some Battalion Commander (90's) invented this stress card for trainees that if they were stressed could get a time out...that didn't last and went no further than his Bn.

Basic Training and Infantry AIT have been extended to a combined 22 weeks....to address the issues prevalent with kids today...overweight/out of shape in general.

This was a real good investment up front.

That's more of go to BH for a chapter is it's too stressful. But I suspect that has been around a long time judging from talking to old salty 68x's....

Profiles are a big deal. In my cycle there was a female that got a profile every ****ing week for soft shoes. Next thing all the females had soft shoe profiles... DS compared male to female foot blisters. We had more blisters then them.. We just didn't complain about it (and did not get profiles)...

Tradoc rules are a big thing as well. Limit the number of physical reps you can do ie. pushups, and can't use mass punishment. We were super scared of EO and sharp. We couldn't even change in the bays. Had to hit up the latrines. One kid got held back for helio his dick. Couldn't even beat him up at night... Whatever... summer camp with m16's. The insults were good. I am curious how they were before EO...

As one of the last draftees, I did my basic at Ft Jackson, SC. July thru August was hot and humid enough for me to drop from 170lbs to125 lbs.

Full Metal Jacket is a very similar representation to my basic training experience. I grew up real fast and I believe it made me a better person.

Everyone should experience basic training "fun" to appreciate the freedom they take for granted today...

I gained about 15lbs in Marine boot, exercise, three meals a day, no candy, no beer, my body liked it.
