Need help in the next 45 minutes, Fred, Tim?

Bad month for AC, went out twice at the house.

Fan clutch went on the Tahoe, ignored it because I've got another DD.

Today wife is coming home in her new Tahoe and the AC goes so it's now at the stealership.

Stop off at Oreilly and pick up a fan clutch for the beater truck.

Her's where it goes off the rails, it's got the press on water pump cover that spins with the fan clutch so you need to immobilize it to break the fan clutch nut loose.

On the press on type they give you 4 threaded holes to put your own bolts so you can use your immobilizer.

Problem is I don't know the size and pitch and have dropped 4 bolts into the belly pan in my trial and error attempts at finding something in my bucket of extras that will work.

So I need to know if anyone knows the size so I can get to Home Depot before they close as I will be car less tomorrow until I get thee fan clutch replaced.

Fred? Help a brother out?

Nevermind, Oreilly has the tool I need, but of course they closed 3 minutes ago.

That sucks that things like this always happen at closing time....deadlines, and commitments !

I went to bed early , sorry I missed this . Quick and dirty universal fan clutch tool is an air chisel with a long bit. Spins that fan nut off every time .

All good.

Uberd to the store this morning, found the tool, happily paid the $25.00 even though I'll likely never use it ever again, got home, whipped out the breaker bars and it came off like buttah.

Nothing like having the right tool for the job, worth every penny every time.

Top tool has the little studs in place of having to thread bolts.

After a lifetime of working on my cars, and having the same two cars for decades, I am at a point where most of the time I have the tool I need to do a job. As a self admitted tool junkie, I have to try hard to find a new tool to buy. Heck I still have my timing light from the 1970s. The only time I use it is if I pull the distributor on my El Camino to get the initial timing set. My dwell meter is now for display only as a obsolete tool.

They didn't have any you could rent? If not, I'd take it back and say I need to return this rental. They most likely will do you right if you bought the fan clutch from them. Most auto part stores have free rental for 24hrs, they take a deposit, and refund you when you take it back.

Autozone rents tools for free. Just need to pay a deposit (which is the price of the tool).
