One of our dogs walked away yesterday

Man this is hard to type , late yesterday my wife let out our 16 year old female Doxie Sophie. When she went to check on her she was gone . We live in a rural area in the mountains so a rough place to be wandering the woods for a old blind dog . We searched for hours last night , informed many neighbors and posted on the local neighborhood forum .

We also have a 16 year old male and a 14 year old male we have had all of them for a long time . My wife is out looking for Sophie right now and I will go when she gets back . We feel helpless at the moment . We take solace that we gave her a great home for many years . We are hoping for the best but prepared for the worst .

Sorry to hear this...it’s so painful. Hopefully not the case but it’s common for an elderly dog to wander off and find a quiet place when it’s time to pass. Thoughts and prayers are with you for a happy ending to this story.

That thought had crossed my mind but she has been the healthiest of the three . But you never know I guess . I am the type of person that thinks everything happens for a reason , but at the moment I am struggling to figure out the reason this happened .

Try social media in your area...we have had one of our dogs "rescued" twice by well intentioned folks that thought Perry was lost (he was on our property).

Both times we got him back via Facebook. We also returned a cat that wandered on our farm this past Sunday after one of our horse boarders posted his pic on Facebook.

Best of luck.

Our dog would wander off when she was old and had become senile. We looked and looked and gave up hope 3 separate times, and each time she was miraculously rescued. We finally refused to allow her out of the house.
Don't give up hope.

Tough to read...best to you...hope she is returned.. but..

Your pup knew it was her time, and went for a walk in the woods....came to the bridge...and crossed with a wagging tail. A fantastic journey of 16 years imo.

Some days just suck though...

Take care.....

Pets...we love them so because they give us much more than we give them.

Sorry. I don’t have kids but I do have dogs and if this happened my life would shut down immediately. I can clearly understand how you must feel.

There may be hope though. A dog showed up to my sisters house last month. She posted about it and someone claimed it. Turns out the dog had been missing since last June. No idea how that’s possible with the winter weather and being it’s the city but....

Best of luck to you.

Don't give up on her.

I have one dog. Katy the Doppler Dog (can sense a t storm an hour away), that is scared to death of said storms.

One time she got out during heavy flooding. She floated/swam 2 miles away and was found 3 days later and taken to our vet (tags) who called me.

Another time she escaped and was gone for a week. The dog catcher snagged her and all was well. Not sure how far she traveled that time.

I have my fingers crossed.

Thanks everyone we are not giving up but we are realistic also . We walked for hours today , posted flyers on telephone poles and put them in mail boxes . Also gave a flyer to our vet and the local shelter . We have posted on social media we think we have done all we can . Now we just wait It is pouring rain right now so not much we can do , if she has passed we hope it was quick and painless . Have to stop typing now I'm getting weepy .........
