I doubt that Scott's (??) British expedition provoked an attack. It's hard to know of course but someone could go thru their old journals.
The rest of them could easily be caused by venturing into a calving area or looking like a seal. The boat flips could be a boisterous teenager with no intent to harm too. I do think it is criminal to confine an intelligent animal used to traveling hundreds or thousands of miles - wolves or orcas. |

No whale thread, nothing in the sea is as  as a shark, baby sea otters come a close 2nd though Never had a fear of sharks, just always been fascinated by sharks, if I could choose a dream job it would be a marine biologist specialising in tropical sharks. This was my favourite childhood bedtime read, not a Hollywood version of events just full of facts about shark attacks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1566425906.jpg Spent most of my childhood in, on or under the sea in the Bahamas, only saw sharks when it was either an arranged snorkel trip or scuba dive to see sharks My brother used to spearfish there and his buddies some who were professional fishermen had a few shark stories. One even had his whole forearm degloved while holding a big snapper as he waded from the shallows onto the beach. Another described a large Tiger as like the land had swum part him. One guy was coming up from 100ft on a wall and a shark came for the fish on his spear, each time he poked the shark away the fish slid down the spear towards his chest. After the 3rd go the guy knew he needed to ditch the fish as the shark was starting to get a bit punchy. The shark hit the fish so fast and hard on the next go all he saw was a shower of fish scales and the fish and shark were both gone. He also told me about the poor girl killed off Rose Island, near Nassau recently, she was snorkelling in one of his old spear fishing spots. Wasn't two sharks as stated in the press but one, that came back a few times. Very unlucky as she happened to be on the most outside of the group so got hit. The tourist boats throw all the leftover hot dogs/burgers in which cause a bit of a fish feeding frenzy. That sort of commotion is a very good way of attracting sharks. |
damn you Higgin's now I have to go dig through to show my past Fiji (it's great ) dives with the shark NOT liking my strobe going off...............typical pissed off shark, front fins arched down and twitching side to side head and blinking.. so of course I grabbed a Ham sized roast of dead fish and fed it to them.
oh and Higgins, I'M not a master diver (5 specialty courses that any tourist can do) But I am a fully certified PADI instructor. Huge Diff. okay fine, let me take you to Cozumel with tons of puppy dog nurse sharks. Coz is the drift dive rush. don't even have to fin. My wife is my main subject matter, she's carrying the yellow 4000 lumen dive light. Turtles crush the coral, crush crush . way more than those evil sharks. Got some new lights and macro lens for ubber close ups. imagine trying to film this, upside down under a ledge at 60 foot deep. while keeping framing and composition....... fun stuff. it's a challenge sometimes. crank your stereo./ phones oh, and at the 1:40 minute mark, you can count 17-18 lobsters in one hole.............bring on the butter and garlic https://vimeo.com/85508998 |
why not help out a marine biologist specialising in tropical sharks?
... transfer some of your vehicular skills to robot submersibles for shark studies |
