Let's not forget the Pro "Stock" class in drag racing, either. I think Grumpy Jenkins kind of killed it with his Vega in the early '70's. He was the first to build a dedicated tube frame race car inside of the factory sheet metal. At lest back then they were required to maintain the factory body shape. Today, the windshields and rear windows lay so flat, and the roof is so low, they resemble one of the old chopped top hot rods.

That aside, NASCAR has been well and truly in its death throes for years. Pissing off their base audience sure as hell is not going to help.

Why not make the trucks the top series? People buy more trucks by far than the cars, the truck racing is better to watch, and they can build them to better resemble their street product

You know NHRA has Stock and Super Stock classes if thats what you want to see.

Absolutely. As a hard core fan since the 1960's, I'm well aware of the classes on offer. I even raced myself for almost ten years from the late '70's through the late '80's.

Pro Stock was always meant to exemplify the pinnacle of what could be done when starting with a "stock" platform. The NHRA has so completely lost sight of that that they should either rename the class, or substantially reel it back in. The cars competing today are more properly "gasser" or "modified" class cars.

What does what people buy have to do with any of this?

I can’t go buy an Indycar and Indycar is awesome to watch

Can’t go buy a formula 1 car either but I watch that too

If I want to watch a race that has cars that resemble what I could buy, just watch the Weathertech series

As for NASCAR I watched every race this year so far and even went to one in person, and enjoyed most of them. Obviously they are not stock cars these days but the action is pretty good, the cars sound amazing in my opinion, avg speed of some tracks of 175 mph ain’t bad.....I’m not sure what’s not to like if you like racing

I wish Indycar season was as long as NASCAR but I’ll take what I can get

I do think it would be good to keep cup drivers out of the xfinity series. Makes no sense to me other than to sell tickets

and do away with truck racing all together unless it’s off road. Can’t imagine why anyone would watch nascar truck series but horses for courses i guess

No. Born in 72. But I get all that. Obviously those days are gone and it’s too bad. I’ll keep watching so long as the engines burn liquid and the cars go fast

If there’s any complaint I have about NASCAR its that the cars are too slow. Once you get hooked on watching 230 mph cars, it’s tough to keep me interested. Fortunately NASCAR shows enough In-car footage to remind me that these guys have real balls and skill and the cars are definitely moving, even if only 170mph

There was a thing called sanctioned or the 500 car deal.
Detroit made these cars.
They had to make at least 500 to be able to be called a stock car and raced albeit they were a little different than a reg showroom car, they were close enough for testosterone and blood.
Hence the saying "win the race Sunday- sell the cars Monday."

Detroit was VERY involved.

I was watching last night in Vegas. Ide say they averaged 175? No complaints from me

Other than the name Ford Mustang on the body I dont think anyone believes there’s a mustang under there or a Toyota Camry.

I too watch every race. People that long for the good ol' days forget the winner being 2 laps ahead of the field. Races dominated by the guy that cheated the best. Yes they still push the limits of the rules but When Petty won number 200, his engine was more cubic inches than the rest of the field. oops. Racing is tight and that makes it fun for me to watch. The nose and tail of the cars actually look like real cars at least.
I have one complaint. The yellow at the end of segments. I'd like to see them keep the segment points but do it without the caution.

The solid axle is probably an asset on the banked ovals. I can't be sure, just an intuition. But independent rear wheel adjustments might work better. What I do know is that NASCAR on road tracks with a car similar to the above would be a hoot.

If you want a taste of what that could be like, just take a look at Australian Supercar, British Touring Car, German DTM, and those kinds of series. Absolutely fantastic racing in each and every one of them. NASCAR's big ovals are something those other series cannot offer - what a cool mix that would be, to have DTM style road racing plus traditional American oval racing. If that could somehow become the future of NASCAR, I think a lot more of us would return to watching.

NASCAR is much like the GOV, they are regulating themselves to death, in fact to the point I think they are losing fans.
take the big tracks. they cant even get out of line much less pass. anytime one got out of line they went backwards. that's no fun to watch or to drive.
I like the small tracks.
went to Bristol and darlington this year. also went up to bowman grey. now if you want redneck racing at its finest THAT is the place to go. planning on hitting a few in Virginia next year.
if they can run flat out around the track then they need to change the rules.


my father in law gave me his old race car. late model. been hitting the local tracks this year. got 3 within an hour and a half.
even at my level its ridiculous. there are full on "built" race cars, probably $100k cars. I am not even sure they have the original front clip.
my car was built from the full chassis of an old chevelle, not just the front clip.
