I dropped away for a few years to build a bunch of stuff and wtf Wayne is gone, Dueller is dead, OJU has left, and Tabs is on a diet.... I miss seeing the proprietor looking after the place like in the old days. Now, the dudes on the phone couldn't really give two shizts about your customer experience. The best part of PP is OT, and asking you guys technical and philosophical questions.

FWIW, I like this forum, and I hope it does well, along with the business it is associated with.
I would prefer a moderator like Zeke. He is respected and well liked, makes his point and moves on.
I can't really understand what the point of having a containment forum is, if it doesn't actually work to perform its function.
It sometimes feels like the inmates are running the asylum. Which is of course great, if you like that sort of thing.

Eric's primary job at Pelican is tech. PPOT is only a small part of a big picture. Keeping track of all the info on the whole site is mitigated by having to keep this forum from running off the rails.

I think Wayne created PARF as a safety valve. It's no secret OT was not his favorite and took up some of his time, which he didn't enjoy. I say that by the tone of his posts now and then. Some of you read those posts.

Looking at the 'island' pic above I'm thinking those banned might have been allowed to stay on if they only posted in PARF. To get banned there one would have to create a pretty big liability. Obviously personal attacks are de jour.

I remember the day PARF was created and when I got a blanket warning PM from Wayne, saying I was one of the trouble makers that had spawned the creation of PARF. A few years later, after some very (IMHO) sober and reasonable posts, Wayne got slammed by a bunch of folks on PARF. I was really surprised by how they piled onto him and even more so that he didn't ban them. I think Wayne checked out after that thread.

Anything posted on PARF is now hidden from online searches so it can, safely, to some degree anyway, be a freeforall, which it is. Something of a Lord of the Flies social experiment as it were. The doxing is the crazy part of it, people are pretty creepy.

OT, as a whole, is a fantastic bunch of people with a lot of interesting insights and experiences to share. It seems to be self-policing pretty well with only what I would consider minor infringements now and again. I myself have stepped over the line several times but try not to keep walking, or respond to those that do.

As I've said many times, I wish there were a one strike and you are out super-PARF where great political discourse would be cherished. But no matter how many parts I buy, that's not going to happen.

I was thinking the same when folks started griping about your usage. It's not really, I would assume, much different from the use of Kleenex, Aspirin and Thermos which lost their specific meaning and took on a wider meaning. (granted, those are/were trademarked names, so it's a little different, but not much)
