I'm going with you're not drinking the proper amount of fermented beverage which is causing an imbalance in the force which then causes the mower to miss a strip of grass.

Don't think I saw checking to see if there is actual blade overlap. Unless you have timed blades, they would be staggered so that the end of adjoining blades cut the same 1/2" or so of turf. Timed ones would also have some overlap. Good luck with the issue.

With the mower off, engage blades. Check tension on the belt. Belt should be tight.

belt tension is good.
I just rebuilt the deck about 2 maybe 3 yrs ago and just put another belt tensioner spring on there. new spindles and pulleys. blade speed is good. I did measure the blades. the back is a little lower than the front I think. just did a quick measurement since we have been getting ready for the himicane. the deck is not completely "open" underneath it. it does have what I assume are baffles that surround the blades. I have considered a box blade for the tractor and just using the ZT for up close but then the way my yard is laid out it would add another hour. I can also put a belly mower on my tractor but I also have a backhoe and FEL on it.

One of these works very well for checking blade height. (costs around $10)
When I bought my JD335, they told me it was all set-up for mowing. I never liked the job it did until I checked and adjusted the blade heights. Now, it cuts perfectly.
