(High end watch collectors are "eccentrics") The original Bullet Mustang that the king of cool Steve McQueen drove in one of the best chase scenes ever filmed? If the right buyer is there on the day... ~ $12,000,000.

They have it on display at the Mecum auction in Dallas. They interviewed the owner and he said he is touring the car around the country prior to the sale.
Too many millions for me to bid... |

I wonder how many copies of that car have been made? Some great recreations, and many more green junkers.

I wonder how many 1973RS clones have been made? Some great recreations, and many more er, not so great. Think they made 1400 or so real ones.
That aside, only one intact hero car from the movie Bullitt remains, and this is it. The chassis of the car ruined in the jumps was found in Mexico (maybe) but when restored about all that will be used is the VIN tag...if legit, little else remains. Guesses of a final price all over the map on this one. Mecum predicting it will be the highest priced Detroit car they've sold. We'll see in January...

Yea, lots GT350s recreated as well.
Point is, that one car, and the movie sold more Mustangs than any advertisement Ford could ever come up with. How many young boys and men decided they wanted that car when they say the movie?

A fella could buy the watch and the Mustang and they’re still not Steve McQueen. Also, it won’t be too long and almost nobody will care about McQueen or his old stuff... . Nostalgia is a weird thing.

(edit) Although the market prices of old muscle and early Porsches do seem to be in a bit of decline. Also, based on the grumblings of those into collecting pool cues on a pool site I visit, maybe all collectables are seeing a dip?
