I love this car
We've been packing more horsepower into cars for as long as I've been alive. There are several threads here about it, even one asking how much is too much.
Vroom Vroom cars don't do if for me anymore. If I had supercar dollars to spend, I'd spend it on something like this.

That's pretty cool. I can see this sort of build really coming into its own in the near future, especially as more EV drivetrains become available from the recyclers.
389.7 VDC...YIKES, I sure hope it's well isolated! But if not, touch the wrong thing and you're a gonner for sure.

Costs a lot to make a car look like that and go like that. Icon has definitely gotten good at what they do.

While that is a cool car that I would walk around inspecting at a car show, I have never been into "lead sleds", and would prefer something nimble, and smaller. I still want my series 1 1971 Datsun 240Z back.

Isaac Asimov wrote a story about the future (of course) in which gasoline was super expensive, so no average person had gas powered cars. The main character in the story was a car guy that had kept his car, and loved to drive it around driving fast when everyone else was on bikes. The plot twist was when he got back home he lamented that he was going to have to spend a lot of time winding up the giant rubber band powerplant. I have not read the story in over 40 years so I may have some details wrong.

I saw a really nice Tesla converted Fiat 124 Spider, but the conversion cost 70K.
It will be interesting to follow this part of the hobby as time goes by. Maybe someday I will build a pod racer once the parts become available. Right now I'm building an old school rat rod, and this will probably be the last old car I buy. It is kind of wild to think that the cars from our youth are as old today as WW1 era cars were when we were kids. I'm starting to look at some of these cars as antiques and artifacts, almost the way I look at one lunger make or break engines. It's like having an old buggy in the yard. I look at the new stuff as being an extension of the resto rod movement, or whatever it is they call that part of the hobby where people are modernizing old chassis. There is a growing place for it, for sure. |
