Does Invisalign work?
My bottom teeth are a fair way from well aligned. Anyone here have experience with this product?

I will ask my dentist what he gave me last week. If it's not invisiline, it's similar. My teeth move around a lot and one front one got pushed out a little, this is after 16 crowns and 16 veneers that were perfect. He used a diamond strip to create a little room between teeth, took a mold, sent it to a lab and I got it last Thursday. Can feel the pressure on my teeth. Losing weight from not wanting to take it out to eat.

Yes, it works. I haven't had it, but a couple of family members have.

Invisalign can work, in certain instances. There are limitations to what it can do. It is not a cure-all, but depending on where you are starting from, it can really make a difference. Have someone locally take a look.
Edit- Shaun might be using clear-correct. Same concept. |
It worked for me but my teeth weren’t too bad. There’s a previous thread on it.

Your PPOT periodontist here...I don't do Invisalign but I refer to my orthodontists for it all the time. Clear Correct is another name for the same thing. The catch-all term for these systems is "clear aligners" I would not recommend Smile Direct Club. They are in hot water with the ADA, most state dental boards, and a lot of patient lawsuits currently, may not be around much longer. |

As I understand it, after the initial office visit, Smiledirectclub sends you all the aligners at once and it's up to you to change them out when required. There are no additional office visits to check up on your progress, or to tweak the aligners. With Invisalign, you still have to change the aligners on schedule, but you visit the orthodontist about every 6 weeks to see how things are coming along and if there are any adjustments needed to your program. This is what probably accounts for the additional cost. I'm starting the Invisalign program later this month and will report back. I have lower crowding that will be corrected and the orthodontist claims that treatment will take 6 months...providing I wear the aligners at least 21 hours a day. After that, I'll need to wear a retainer (similar to the aligners) full time for another 6 months, then only at night from then on. |

Got my first set of Invisalign trays put on yesterday. I have 18 more and 189 days left to go. Gonna be the best and most expensive weight loss program I can imagine.

"When is a diet worth as much as a first generation miata?" Why is this a weight loss program? Because you can't eat with the trays in so you don't snack all day? |
Eating is a chore. They didn't give me a tray removal tool, so I'm using my fingernails until the tool I ordered on Amazon arrives. Worst part is the buttons they cemented to my teeth to hold the trays on. The buttons are very abrasive when the trays are out, so they catch a lot of food. I am just about done my morning coffee, will go brush my teeth, put the trays back in and then that's it until lunch. I have a gig tonight and don't want to bring a toothbrush with me for after I grab a quick meal before our set.

You could always carry something like this for those nights out.
|
I am so nauseous today, I may not have to worry about eating for a while.

I was also told that the aligners needed to be removed before consuming anything but plain water. I found that I could drink coffee, juice and even mixed drinks without removing them...no harm done. I always removed them to eat anything that required chewing though. |
I think it my be a matter of your age. My wife used them with poor results. Some of her teeth are still loose after a few years

My family's experience is, yes, they do work, but you should be aware of the need to wear a retainer at night after the treatment is done. in adults the jaw structure is pretty well set and the teeth will seek to return to their original position if you don't wear the retainer. YMMV.

Isn’t that a kind of ladies underware, no visible panty lines, etc? Not understanding your application exactly. They don’t belong in your mouth. Ever.

My bottom teeth have become crooked over the years. I had braces but that was 30 years ago. My fathers teeth had moved so much that he needed to have oral surgery to fix his teeth to the tune of $13k. I decided to spend the $6k for invisalign to look better and avoid future surgery.
My wife had them and we had great results. I have had them a month and Im already seeing some nice results, still have 5 months to go. Regarding wearing a retainer, once done kids are supposed to wear a retainer as well, your bottom jaw is always growing and shifting. I hadn't heard that this shifting is any different for adults. I am considering getting a permanent retainer so I don't have to wear the retainer. I told my ortho I'll probably be good for 5 months and then start to forget. He says yes, everyone does that. LOL The permanent retainer is a small metal bar that goes behind your teeth to keep them from sliding around. I have heard a few people say that after a week or so, you forget its there. |

I know I only wore one for about 6 months and my teeth shifted around. |
I grind my teeth at night and every dentist I've ever had has tried to get me to wear a guard at night but I never had the motivation to do it. Finally my dentist showed me a teeth casting of a man who ground his teeth his whole life without a guard. It was scary! That was all the motivation I needed. I decided if I was going to wear a mouth guard/retainer for the rest of my life, I might as well spend a bit more money and do invisalign.
Even after Invisalign, I had to get a permanent wire retainer behind my top 4 front teeth since from morning to night my tooth gap would visibly open. |

As I said back in September of this thread, that meant 16 crowns and 16 veneers. One bottom tooth was always pushed out before the work. My perfect smile lasted about one year and then my teeth started to move again and the bottom one was getting pushed out again. Hence the invisilign or whatever he gave me. Net net: For anyone in similar situations, spend the money, very short money compared to crowns, to wear something at night to protect your enamel. |
I've been wearing a cheapo, sporting good store mouth guard for about 4-5 years now. So I slowed some of the damage down. But after spending the money for Mrs. Lee to have an abscessed tooth removed and replaced, Invisalign looks to be a better bang for the buck and good preventative medicine.
