My answer has always been, thanks for asking but no there isn't as my mind is made up Be sure to leave your company on good terms as it's never a good idea to burn bridges |
Early on a made a mistake and took the counter offer to stay. Good place to work but I learned the hard way. Good idea to plan ahead and make a return a possibility, who knows how the next stop will work out. It was almost 20 yrs ago and I still feel bad about the way I handled the situation.

Always heard that if you resign and they offer money/promotion/whatever to stay... you should ask yourself "well, if me leaving makes them think it is worth this to keep me, why haven't they been giving me this all along?" Maybe even ask them.

Burning bridges might be a good idea if someone's chasing you. |
Got to company B, leave company A with total class.

It was the best career move I ever made... And quite a few folks "wanted" to swim with me too...but did not. It was fun running into one power trippin' 2nd level manager in particular on occasion...I rocked his world...hard rock :)....YMMV. |
My daughter handled it slightly differently after ten years with company A she was headhunted by company B but hadn't yet accepted the.
She went to her boss and told them of the offer received. Company A said hang fire for a day and then the big boss of the boss travelled to see her and offered her more the B had plus a promise of a path to eventual promotion. She is still with A , in a culture she was used to and liked .The whole process took weeks, and admittedly she was anxious throughout. |
I've never knowingly burnt a bridge, my work world is too small for that, have seen some spectacular bridge fires though, very entertaining too
petrolhead611, being headhunted is very unsettling, not just for the person being hunted but their family too, not surprising your daughter was anxious, she did well to hold her nerve, I'm glad it worked out well for her Was in the same position but I told my Company H when I resigned. My family and I all agreed we needed an adventure so I accepted the offer from Company F and move abroad to Country I We were lucky and really enjoyed the whole experience, so much so my wife and I are looking to do it again once our kids have left home but this time we'd like to try Country USA  |
That’s a really enviable career, Captain!
