I never would have thought I'd like such a thing, but now that Wahoo supports it I gave it a shot. Wow, best 200 bucks I've spent on cycling in a while.

For those who don't know, its a radar unit that audibly alerts to cars from behind, and shows where they are graphically along the edge of the head unit. Generally, it alerted me significantly before I heard the car. The best part, though, is multiple vehicles-you always know exactly how many there are and when the lane is clear again. It really reduces the stress level.

After Andrew Bernstein got left for dead in a ditch, I started to think a bit. I ride solo on country roads. Distraction is an issue there as everywhere, but honestly just being able to not look back and know that its one or several is really nice.

Do the "find my friends" or whatever your phone offers to a spouse or friend. Text them when you leave and when you return. They will always know where you are while you are riding.

On a recent group ride a rider in front of me had the Garmin radar. I could tell when a car was coming up behind us by watching the lights increase on his tail light. Pretty cool.

I don't have one yet but my Garmin 520 will text my wife if I crash. Unfortunately it also texts her sometimes when I stop too fast.

I caught the green font, but actually, yes. The radar's range is better than my hearing, at least for econoboxes. Truck tires make plenty of noise. But my neck actually is somewhat impaired from a m/c accident a while back. Not having to turn is a good thing even if not, because you can keep a steady line on the fogstripe and also scan for hazards.
