RIP Robert Hunter
I know there’s 2 or 3 dead fans here besides me
Bummer. A private man, I didn’t see that coming Nothing on this planet has influenced my life as profoundly and continually as the dead’s music, the best of which had lyrics written by Hunter. Thanks man |

Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock your soul...

Now I don't know, but I been told
If the horse don't pull you got to carry the load I don't know whose back's that strong Maybe find out before too long One way or another, one way or another One way or another, this darkness got to give |
There's a musical reunion taking place tonight in the heavens. RIP Mr. Hunter.

Let me lay 'neath the roses, till my eyes no longer see.
|
There is a road, no simple highway
Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go no one may follow That path is for your steps alone |
When it's done and over
Lord, a man is just a man |
Damn. No one, I mean no one, grew up during my time who was not in some way influenced by this man, whether they knew it or not.

Standing on the moon
With nothing left to do A lovely view of heaven But I’d rather be with you, be with you For over 30 years I’ve listened to lots of music and strayed every once in a while to all kinds of genres, but I have always gone back to my roots. And as has been mentioned, the Dead have influenced my life for good and bad. Hunters eloquent writing was a major part of that. Thank you very much sir. |
You can tell the queen of diamonds by the way she shines.

Strangers stoppin' strangers just to shake their hand
Everybody's playing in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band |
Hunter was as much of the band as Garcia or Weir.

An obscure one from his first album "Tales of the Great Rum Runners" (1974)
Does God look down on the boys in the barroom Mainly forsaken but surely not judged? Jacks, kings, and aces, their faces in wine Do Lord deliver our kind From singing for whiskey, three strings on a fiddle Four on the guitar and a song that I love Many's the night we spent picking and singing In hopes it be pleasing both here and above Jack string fiddle to my sawtooth bow Who loves loneliness, loves it alone I love the dim lights like some love the dew Only thing I wonder sometimes Does God look down on the boys in the barroom Mainly forsaken but surely not judged? Jacks, kings, and aces, their faces in wine Do Lord deliver our kind |
Fever roll up to a hundred and five
Roll on up Gonna roll back down One more day I find myself alive Tomorrow Maybe go Beneath the ground See here how everything Lead up to this day And it's just like Any other day That's ever been Sun goin up And then the Sun it goin down Shine through my window and My friends they come around Come around Come around |
In an interview, Hunter quoted Dark Star lyrics and then said, "What's not clear about that?" He often wanted his lyrics to be interpreted deferentially by each listener, to make it more personal. Of course, I stall haven't figured out the Dark Star lyrics. Maybe some day.
Dark star, crashes Pouring its light into ashes Reason tatters, the forces tear loose from the axis Searchlight casting, for faults in the clouds of delusion Shall we go, you and I while we can Through, the transitive nightfall of diamonds Mirror shatters in formless reflections of matter Glass hand dissolving to ice petal flowers revolving Lady in velvet recedes in the nights of goodbye Shall we go, you and I while we can Through the transitive nightfall of diamonds |

This is fun. We should have a "Name that Grateful Dead song" thread using one line from the lyrics |
