Recommend Me A Whisky
I probably drink too much. Several stiff IPAs each evening. My pants are shrinking in the waist. I'd like to switch to whisky but it tastes VERY sweet to me (hops are bitter). I like scotch and always have several good choices in my cabinet but again...they taste too sweet. Recommend me a whisky that does not taste like syrup.

Past year I have bin porin different Bourbons...
Dickles single barrel..at 104..it is TN whiskey like JD... JD barrel proof at 132..it is hot..that charcoal filtered taste with heat. Old Granddad 114..best bang for the buck..has that Beam twang..made by Beam STAG JR...at 126. It is mighty fine sipping Bourbon. It is now tough to get. You might wanna try some Shine LV distillery make a fine rendition of the white nectar. Eagle Rare..is nice and mellow Four Roses single barrel. I only shared what I thought was good. Ifn you can get it BUY Weller.... I can not get it here..the Antique 107 or 12 year...just do it |

I don't know much about bourbon, so I wasn't going to answer. I found Eagle Rare sweet.
I do like Four Roses single barrel. Discount my opinion here. I know nothing this. |

I don't drink much anymore, maybe a drink or two a month.
My pants keep getting looser, and young women seem to light up and smile at me frequently. September 07, 2019 How Alcohol Can Impair the Body's Hormone System https://www.verywellmind.com/alcohol-and-hormones-66570 Quote:

That said, I was treated to one of the Balvenie's a while back, very smooth.

Rye is spicy, try Dad's Hat or Copper Fox.

Bushmills Irish Whiskey is good (they make a "Black" Bush that is very good too).
Jameson's is relatively inexpensive and decent. Have been trying a lot of Japanese whiskeys lately. A couple from the Suntory brand - Hibiki, Toki - and one from Nikka called Coffey Grain whiskey. They are all very tasty. If you want to try a good rye whiskey, try Bulleit. And I know it's technically Bourbon, but I'm a big fan of Maker's Mark.

I was able to get 3 bottles of Buffalo Trace and have found it very good. My usual bourbon is Jack Daniels black.
I too find some bourbons taste sweet.

Supe's looking for a whisky which isn't too sweet and you guys are pushing bourbon?
You're going to get so many different opinions it will be tough to make a decision. Here are some of my suggestions, depending on what type of flavor you're after. For something on the dry side with no peat smoke try Bruichladdich. Their "The Classic Laddie" is their entry level bottle, reasonably priced at around $40. Can't miss it on the shelf as it 's in a distinct turquoise bottle. Something with a bit more bite, a little more smoky but not overly peated, dry with a hint of sweetness, maybe slightly salty, try Talisker 10. Around $50 depending on where you shop. You may also want to look for Bowmore 12. Similar dry smokiness, probably not as refined as the Talisker, but maybe $45 or so. Want something with a punch? Based on your preference for IPA's I'm guessing you like big, robust flavor. Peaty whisky definitely isn't for everyone - you love it or hate it. If you want to give it a go try Port Charlotte 10 at around $65, or a Caol Ila 12 at about the same. These will have a lot of peaty smoke. A significant contributor to a whisky's flavor depends on the cask. Bourbon, by law, is matured in fresh American oak casks. This gives the whisky a distinct sweetness which is why I'm surprised people are mentioning bourbon. Scotch, particularly the ones above, tend to use used bourbon casks where the initial fill(s) removes most of the sweetness.

I'd just start buying some scotches. Try some of the Japanese. They are pretty good.

You'll drink even more alcohol and pickle your liver. Quit for a while. Set a goal. For me it was a year, and the closer I get to the 1 year mark, the less I miss it and see the benefits of not drinking. I may never go back. G |

Try Tequila
A stimulant not a depressant and the agave is associated with weight loss ( it's one of the good sugars) Last edited by Ziggythecat; 09-25-2019 at 07:21 PM.. |

Seconding rye (the real stuff, not Canadian). I find bourbon, especially in the older ages, is too sweet for my tastes.
Rittenhouse Rye is an awesome value. The range of flavors in scotch is pretty amazing. Not all of it is burnt-band-aid awful.
