It sounds like this guy was mostly trying to follow the rules to the letter, but not necessarily the spirit to win which is usually how successful teams do it, but it also sounds like he may have bent the rules a little bit.

What a shame. He was a hero of mine in the early 80's.
Dick Beardsley and Alberto ran one of the most competitive marathons ever. NY I think. Back then a 2:09 was crazy. Dual in the Sun. He inspired me to train harder and I finally broke 3 hours with a 2:56. I find it very hard to believe he would do what he has been accused of. Maybe everybody as a trainer is doing it but when you get caught..... Turn out the Lights, the party is over. |
