Garmin Cycling Computer HELP

Since we have such a huge knowledge base here, has anyone has an issue with a Garmin Edge 1000?

Mine boots up and keeps a charge but the touchscreen is not working right so I can't choose from menus or even shut it off.

Sure enough its out of warranty. Garmin estimates repair at $200 minimum.

Planned obsolescence?

Do you have the Garmin ap on your computer and have you updated software recently?

I have a little Garmin 25 so no direct experience with your model.

I had an 800 that did this. used touchscreens are available. Check youtube, you can take it apart and play with the connector, sometimes that helps.

All updates as of Friday last.

Guess i will look for a used touchscreen.

Thanks!

Try this, I found it on a forum - don't know if it will work for you but it's a start..

I found the following instructions on the Garmin support site, which seemed to have done the trick:

You may encounter an issue where the Edge 510, 800, 810, or 1000 may freeze or not power down and appear as if it is locked up. Performing the below button sequence while the device is connected to the computer will unlock (or unfreeze) the device.
Connect device to computer
Press and hold LAP/RESET and POWER
Release POWER when screen turns off (continue to hold LAP/RESET)
Release LAP/RESET when device appears as a drive letter on your computer
Your Edge should now function normally. A software update may also be available to download from Garmin Express.

The only caveat is that when my device restarted, the clock was incorrect. I will check the time zone settings and make sure it has acquired a satellite signal.

Thanks. I did but its now stuck on the setup screen asking for my choice of language. Since the touchscreen is not responding, I can't confirm the choice to get to the next screens.

Cheers!
