I'm moving soon and really don't want to deal with a 400# safe any longer. Looking to sell it and find something more moving friendly...

No experience with that one, but you always want to buy a lot more gun safe than you think you will ever need. I have totally outgrown mine.

Yeah I get that but I'm at point in my gun ownership that I have what I have and it's capped. I just want reasonable security with some portability.

It is a gun cabinet keeping unauthorized users away. But it won't protect from fire or theft.

It is tough to thoroughly protect from theft and fire without spending many thousands on a heavy unit, so it is reasonable to just have an access control cabinet, if your gun collection isn't worth a lot and/or if you have ample insurance.

For $599.00 that is quite expensive for a gun cabinet vs. a gun safe . Do you move that often ? I will always prefer a fire rated safe even if it's a " cheap one " over a cabinet .

I have my 500# safe bolted to the floor....'cause it's easy peasy for me to move solo...using an appliance hand dolly/truck thingy....best Franklin I ever spent decades ago.

We have a drawer in the kitchen that holds all the silverware. There is a divider that separates the knives, butter knives, forks, teaspoons, tablespoons, and dessert forks. It works really well.

Oh wait, I forgot this is the secret boys club expression for guns and pistols. Sorry.

I'm curious as to why you say it won't protect from theft? I get that any safe/cabinet given time can be compromised but I would think this steel box is a much better solution to stop or slow thieves down than putting them in the back of a closet. I'm just trying to protect them from the punk smash and grab thief who does not come prepared. If a pro shows up with a sawzall and diablo blade then yes they are getting in, but that would be the case with the 400# steel\sheetrock\carpet safe I have now as well.
Yes, ultimately they are protected by insurance. I'll give feedback once it arrives to see if I think it's worth keeping..appreciate your thoughts.

Maybe okay with smash and grab type of thieves. Someone without tools won't be able to open it, but it won't take much with 18 gauge steel and 3 bolts to pry it open - that's 1/20 of an inch. IMHO you are correct that this cabinet does not offer less protection than a similar priced "safe" that you buy at your local big box store. If you bolt it down, it also isn't easily taken in a smash and grab.

In the end you won't be able to protect against a serious break in even spending 5x and that's what insurance is for.

Looks too much like a safe where the good stuff is. I went the opposite direction, not saying I am correct, just a different perspective. I bought a Knaack job site box on CR for cheap, $200, some elbow work and spray paint, and it holds most of my stuff, likely over 1K lbs as it sits, with my tools to defeat, definitely a barrier against the smash and grab folks. Yep no security for fire or flood, I pay homeowners insurance for that.




Agreed my first interpretation in the photos above also did some 'advertising'. Have since enclosed the space and 5 years ago sold the home. All is lost, I only took the contents. Lessons learned, my new storage is far more discrete but same basic implementation.

I love everything about this...very well executed. A sort of hide in plain site along with being secure. I also picked up a Job Box on CL for cheap. I keep stuff that doesn't fit in the other safe along with tools that could be used against me. My only issue with it for being my only "secure" box is access. For me it is not as convenient as my safe but your set up is better than mine. i may have to copy..
