One year into retirement!

Retired at age 52

Didn't mean to post, we can edit but can't delete posts anymore?

Oh well. It's been a very interesting experience, as one would expect from such a major life change. Certainly the most interesting, introspective experience of my life thus far.

Some observations:

Time has gone by quickly. I looked up my old Post and was surprised that it was more than a year ago.

There's a Confucius quote that sums up my feelings so far: "We have two lives, the second begins when we realize we only have one." I was someone who always lived for the future. I'm much better at living in the present now.

I've spent time simplifying. Sold all extraneous cars (except one) and just sold my Ducati, which I never rode anymore. Very satisfying!

Took a year of Spanish at the community college. What a trip that was! This was a regular college Spanish class, not adult education. So I was the old guy amongst 18-25 year olds. Surprisingly, it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot about.

Another goal was to watch and critique 365 movies this year. That too has been interesting, in that I wasn't a huge movie watcher before. I just crossed the 250 mark, so probably going to fall a bit short on that goal.

Have not been bored yet, not for a minute. But I'm a simple man with simple needs. I can go for a quiet contemplative walk for an hour or two and be very happy. I've also somehow been busier than I thought. I keep waiting to be "done" with the things I need to do, and just be sitting there bored with nothing to do, but it hasn't happened yet.

Do I think I will go 30+ years of not working a money paying "job"? I don't know. I certainly have no plans to do that, but it's possible.

But you do quickly learn to avoid crowds by playing & shopping in the middle of the week when others are working and stay home most weekends.

Seven months in for me. So far retirement has been fixing my long put off ailments. Right shoulder rotator cuff tomorrow. Don’t miss working for a living one bit.

I practised law for 47 years, and thought I would work forever. Then my wife died, and two years later I lost interest in the work, and got to the point where I couldn't do any more deals, so I hung it up last June.

I belong to a sports club, where I swim, play squash, work out, and spend time with my friends, so life is good.

I feel like a great load of responsibility has been lifted from my shoulders.

My wife was able to retire at 49, thanks NC. She loves it, and is asking when I plan to retire.

Congratulations to all that have made it.

5:months now since I sold my business,aged 70.
Bought a few more rentall houses, but my son-in-law has a property management company so I let him take care of day to day stuff We have done up our own house ( using contractors), first time in 33 years I have had time to supervise that .
I still haven't started getting my racecar or my Porsche back on the road, and I seen to have little inclination to crawl under a car these days
