Yes please post details!

My 11 year old son is becoming an IT geek and I'd like to teach him how to download and install linux on a few Dell laptops we have!

Go here and download LiLI. https://www.linuxliveusb.com/ Install it to your computer.

Go here. https://www.distrowatch.com/ You will find 100 Linux versions that you can download and save to a file These are ISOs. Open LiLi and put a flashdrive in the USB port. Follow instructions. It will ask what ISO you would like to install. Select one that you saved. In a few minutes you will have a bootable OS on the drive. Press F12 when you start the computer and select the USB from the boot menu and you will be on linux. You can try any version you can find and if you do not like it just reformat the drive and start over. If you search for Tahrpup you will find an ISO for a very easy and user friendly linux OS. You can get Tahrpup here. https://www.distrowatch.com/index.php?distribution=puppy
And here.Puppy Linux Home

Don't you have to format the usb drive and make it bootable? I thought I had to do that when I put chromium on a USB to test it out.

LilLi does it all. The formatting is in the, follow instructions part. The whole process takes only a few minutes.

Did you like Chromium ? I used it for a few minutes and thought it was OK. Just never got back to it.

I thought it was okay. I mostly did it because my kids use chromebooks at school and this allowed them to easily interface. I know when I upgraded the ram and installed a new SSD, it made the system considerably faster than it ever was under 7 & 10. It's faster than my native 10 system by far.
