It's been there for 101 years, (Canadian Niagara falls) but just came loose last week during a storm.

It's going to go over soon I'd guess.

I saw that on yahoo. Never heard of it before. Would be interesting to watch it roll over.

I've been to Niagara falls twice. Words can't describe the power and volume of water flowing over them.

It's quite an interesting story, this "Old Scow" came loose from a tug some ways up river and then got stuck a few hundred yards from the Canadian falls, all this in 1918,
apparently it moved a bit during a storm last week and looks like it might go over any time.

First time I visited the Falls about 30 yrs ago, I had a very "what the heck is that" moment, thinking it had just happened.

I had no idea... Why leave it there for a 100 years?

Yea, probably too heavy & dangerous to winch it ashore.

Maybe they can get it next time the falls go dry.

I grew up in Niagara. Always been a tale of folklore for sure.

I'm sure they could move it with today's technology somehow, but I doubt it will go much further anyway. The water above the falls is only 2-3 feet deep and I'm sure that thing weighs a LOT... It has been deteriorating and rusting for years so maybe it will break apart one day and then go over in pieces. Who knows..

You can see it in the picture (satellite view) It's just south of Gull Island. Has a long way to go and very shallow water before it would go over..

Do they still shut the falls off at night?

Don't worry, I'll swim out and tie a rope to it and we can all pull it back to shore.

Not really. As I recall water is diverted at night for power generation. Or perhaps it used to be.

Hmmm, never been to Niagra Falls and just now learned, the falls face North.

I always thought they faced South.

Learn something new every day.

I never put anything in green. They either still shut it off or they don't.
