Demon vs Sapphire

I know, I know, the EV with the instant torque is gonna win every time, but dang, that Lucid is fast!!!

one thing i like about EVs is they finally showed how dumb drag racing is.

and its not even that they are so fast. its that they killed the excitement/tension because they do it with such little effort. like a 10 second civic, fox body etc is unreliable, its loud, it smells, tough to get off the line, like a lot can happen.

a 10 second EV? you dont even have to turn the AC off. its just done. and when you line it up again, it will repeat within a tenth. like there is no drama. its just done.

No, it shows the importance of driver input in an ICE. You have to use your brain for some of that traction control.

The smoke, noise and smell is what makes the NHRA great.

Would have been fun to throw some corners into the mix.

Until you get into purpose built drag racing in a modified car, electric will be faster. No electric car will do a 1/4 mile in 3.22 seconds at 402 MPH.

That electric car can get a head start and go across the start line at top speed as the drag racer is starting from a dead stop, and pass the electric (or any street car) and win the 1/4 mile race.

I think the lucid would have really embarrassed the Demon to an even larger extent. Jason Camissa has said it is the best handling large sedan ever made. Would have been fun to watch though for sure.

racing is about eliminating failure modes ... thats kinda the point.

EVs killed drag racing, and im a huge fan of that alone. drag racing is just on this side of magazine stats racing.

You could put the best professional driver in the world in the Demon and a kid with 0 racing experience in the EV and it would still be no contest, the kid would win going away

I understand that.

Doesn't change my thoughts on why I like the drags.

I get it ^ and agree. EVs have really taken away a lot from the drag strips. You have no talent geek kids who don't even know how to use a clutch beating the pants off of super bikes in the Tesla Plaid their daddy bought them

you have a dumb sport if the skills you think you need to win have no effect on the outcome of the event.

and thats why i like EVs, they highlight why drag racing was always dumb to me.

I find it amazing at what Top Fuel and Funny Cars are doing these days. I mean, going from a dead stop to over 300mph in a quarter of a mile??? Think of the physics and mechanics that are involved to make that happen!!! Incredible!!!

Even American muscle has been made more obsolete with the emergence of the EV. The '60s and '70s muscle are a piece of Americana and beautiful but functionally they just went fast in a straight line. Now you have econo can hybrids that are faster.

People race lawn tractors for fun. There is no reason dragracing cant be as much/as little fun as it was before EVs. All racing is to rule sets anyways or its not racing.

Drag racing is dumb. Racing around close circuits to get nowhere is dumb. Basketball is really dumb. There is no point to any sporting endeavor except entertainment.

EVs are the new American muscle.

i dont really like muscle cars of any type, german or american, but there is no denying that EVs are modern american muscle.

EVs don't show that drag racing is dumb. EVs show that drag racing with EVs is dumb.

Exactly, successful drag racing with an ICE requires quite a bit of driver skill plus appropriate vehicle setup. It's not as simple as hitting the gas and holding on.
