Joe, Thanks for posting the strip - I have the same strip on my computer and often post it on my FB page.

Civil discourse is impossible in PARF. Perhaps the cancer is spreading. Civil discourse, it seems, frighten some people.

You simply can’t be honest, can you? Civil discourse frightens exactly which people here?

You were, are, PARF, Jim. Be not afraid.

As Mr. Higgins aptly posted, it's not an easy job. I started out helping Eric on the weekends when he wasn't at work. You have no idea how much spam/porn/junk reaches Pelican at night, or anytime really. That's the main thrust. Eric has a lot to do besides ride the OT forum. He's the IT guy at Pelican for the whole site. The Pelican business is the focus here and the forums are a nice offering. They don't have to be here.

I've been around a long time. I briefly worked for Pelican. Wayne hired me personally and I feel like I know just a little bit about the guy. His spirit lives on here on the forums and I try to think as he would when something doesn't seem right.

As you all know, the PARF was created strictly with tolerance in mind for those that just could not refrain from violating the spirit and intent of the OT forum. Call it rules if you wish. Cross the line and all you do is bring the forum down to a lower common denominator.

The job is subjective for sure and I'm just trying to help keep the place upstanding. I welcome any comments sent via a PM and will address every one. In the meantime, help me, help Eric and help Pelican Parts to maintain a lively, entertaining 'club house' for enjoyment, discussion and light debate.

Zeke,

Your work is very much appreciated by myself- I come here for tech advice, pleasant exchanges and a wide reaching knowledge base on almost any subject. I have no desire to get involved in some of the nastiness that is very much a part of PARF and therefore stay out of that section.

Lately there are some that try and “sneak” topics in regular OT or post things that are PARF in threads that have nothing to do with PARF topics. Your weeding them out is welcome.

Not even joking, but if there isn’t a forum on the Internet that is highly regulated for people who wish to discuss political issues politely, there should be as politics can be very interesting, but not if one needs to wade through insults.

Thanks,
Rutager

Well guys, I'm here to tell you - I, for one, am willing to cut our new moderator some slack. It's a tough job, with long hours, and very little pay... ;)

I, for one, am glad to see Zeke step up. Most of the rest of us never would. I think we would all agree that he is one of the more level-headed inmates in our little asylum. I think he will do a fine job. Just be patient for awhile - I'm sure there wasn't any training, there is no instruction manual - none of that. He's kind of hanging out to dry, flying by the seat of his pants. He'll get it. Let's try not to be too hard on him while he's settling in.

I bet milt would do a better job

Zeke:
I'm OK with your ruling if you rule evenly. The Jojo rabbit thread also contained the same elements and even more so. Which part of my post was considered politics or religion but the Jojo rabbit thread didn't.

PLEASE PM me so I can understand.
Thanks

Zeke I really appreciate the job you do and thanks

I read and enjoy most PPOT threads, it's very much like a good UK car forum in that I rarely read political or religious posts (must be a Merican thing ????)

I come come here to discuss and learn about cars/interesting stuff and improve my knowledge using other members experiences and knowledge not to read about political/religious ideologies

I occasionally venture into the 'special' section for a look but there are too many extremists rampaging around in there so I never post

Don't be too harsh as the odd verbal punch up is always entertaining and please keep up your good work

A civil discussion can last for a few posts. Then the usual suspects join in and every discussion goes in the toilet.

People run out of useful things to say so the topic diverges from the original content.

Then if people repeatedly dont get their listener to internalize the comments they are making they get frustrated and angry...then the listener becomes stupid because they still dont get it.

Try that on a national scale...now you are talking at each other and not with each other. There is no give and take. BO pushed those trends to be reelected. Trump doubles down.
for effect. The next guy is going to make the other side the enemy.

As far as I am concerned, a Moderator does not have to justify anything to me, or explain his actions. It isn't my call, nor is it my place to demand explanations.

It is easy enough to PM a moderator or report a post if you think it is warranted. People here like to test the limits, but the rules are clear enough. Moderating is a difficult job, but it is not a popularity contest. If you have a problem with a specific thread, maybe you should report it, instead of trying to drum up support for your opinion as to how a job should be done.

Yeah, every opinion posted in PARF is pure gold, worthy of ''getting''. But what if I get it, and I still don't agree?

Nobody thinks PARFers are the enemy, but maybe we don't want to have these discussions with people who get insulting because others don't ''get it''. Here we are in OT, but now we are discussing BO and Trump. Way to PARF up a thread.

Anybody that wants the gold of other people's political opinions knows where to find it. But it is divides our community when people keep slipping politics in to non political forums. Did you really have to do that here in this thread ?

I suppose you could do what I have done here in the past, let them have their say and move on.
Just because they say it loud and often doesn't make them right and repeatedly telling them they are wrong isn't going to change their minds.

Your results may vary.
Best
Les

I'll let you all in on a little secret... The people that argue in PARF enjoy arguing and one upping each other.

KFC911 11-11-2019 03:51 AM

Milt sent me a very nice PM a few weeks ago when my PPanties got twisted ... he has always had my support, just like Eric does...(Todd and Zoltan :))....a thankless task indeed.

Thank you fer yer support....LOL :)...

I agree 100%, BUT...

It would be nice to sometimes see an explanation of just what was over the line. Sometimes it is really obvious, other times, not so much.

mattdavis11 11-11-2019 07:10 AM

I think we should go back to the old days before PARF. Everyday we take, dish and deal with it. Why should we soften the world?

Dissent is what made everything possible. With no dissent, we have nothing, not even a fire.

pavulon 11-11-2019 07:29 AM

Dissent brought fire?

Man didn't, nature did, but how to make one did. You think they got it right the first time?

 I'm shocked - shocked, I tell you. And here I thought all of that energy was actually having a positive affect on our political landscape. Next you will tell me there is no Santa Clause... :(
