Returning my BBQ to Costco
Somehow I feel guilty.
Reading how many people take advantage of Costco Return Policy. BUT, it IS covered under warranty. I BBQ 2-3 times a week...........year 'round. Gets heavy use. Some of you have gained weight due to me.......Hi Jeff It's 2 years old. Paid $800-1000 for it. Has a mix of parts with 1, 3, and 10 year warranties now after 2 years of constant love.....The stainless burners only half light, IR side burner same, no igniters........just standard tired BBQ stuff. It's got 6 main stainless burners @ $30 each $180 The Side IR sear station burner is $80 Side IR cast iron grate $40. plus shipping. That's $300 for 3 parts alone, I could list more. Googling, seems like people DO take BBQ's back, and get full money back. The receive about 1 a month, so rare. Why do I feel guilty for taking mine back? would you feel weird rolling a 5 foot long BBQ into Costco? Maybe I cook steaks on it that morning just to make them drool.... Here's a list of some wild returns, that were accepted. https://clark.com/shopping-retail/weirdest-returns-costco-employees-have-ever-seen/ |
RH - Don't feel guilty at all. You paid top dollar and should expect more. I rarely return items, but had a small fridge in my cabin with a bad compressor after 2 years.......Costco took it back no problem.......

I worked at Costco in college. Return it. What you describe is not abusing their policy.
I did certainly see some abuses in my time... like people returning trampolines at the end of summer. |
I have the Weber 3 burner Genesis w/ sear station from Costco. Is it a similar grill?
|
At least it's not a dead and brown Christmas tree from last year!

Costco's tire dept. accused me of lying when I tried to get them to honor their road hazard warranty on a tire we got there. I knew it was gonna be a fight because our membership had since lapsed and we had gone to Sam's. But we did buy those tires from Costco while Costco members. They ended up honoring it, but it was a real headache and it took a lot of self-control for me not to go to mgt. to complain about that guy implying I was lying to get some money out of them.

Battery quit on my wife's Sienna within two years. Took it back to Costco and see about getting another with the prorated discount. Guy behind the counter said, we just give you a new one. I thought about it for a second and before I had a chance to jump for joy, he said, "don't feel bad, we do this all the time. Some people bring back completely dead batteries after 4 year, we give them a new one". Crazy return policy. I hate that place due to the mass amount of people but my wife's there once every two weeks mid morning with no one around.

Taunting her, and you didn't stop the mean people:rolleyes:? What a bad boy you are? :DDid you read the Fried chicken thread. That could have gone down really bad but you would sue the company for millions and maybe you will own the battery company when the dust settles. Maybe only in this country? :)
|
I certainly wouldn't have done it after having read the Fried Chicken Thread. Oh no. Especially if I knew I wold be slam dunked on the concrete outside

Rusty Heap I would load the grill into your vehicle and head over there . Go inside and ask for a manager . Walk him/her out to your vehicle and explain the situation . Not sure what the warranty states do you get replacement parts for free ? A refund ? A new grill ? They offer a warranty for a reason , don't feel bad about using it . Good luck

ask for the new parts, or for a pro rata refund on another one (2 yrs use)
be grateful when they give you a new one |
Costco normally sells decent quality stuff. You should expect more from them than this. Even Costco will say that. Return it.
Costco checkout lines move remarkably fast. |
They don't do this out of the kindness of their hearts. It's built into their business model. Everything we buy there helps pay for it. Don't you dare feel bad, not for one New York minute. Or steak... burp... And, yes folks, young David can grille. His is a very dangerous deck to find one's self upon... burp...

I don't object to you exercising your rights as a consumer. If you want to return it, you should.
But the reason you feel guilt is because you know that the its going to straight in the garbage, when it could be repaired. If it were me, I would repair, but to each their own. |

In Canada, Optima battery past the return threshold and they are no longer a supplier. |
