Going low-brow with plasti-dip on my emblems..

So I got bored yesterday and decided to change my emblems to matt black. Seemed sacrilegious to use plasti-dip, but I went for it. At least it's reversible and it beats removing the old ones and spending $200 for new ones and going through the hassle of measuring, installing, etc.

Here's the story in pictures.

Original emblems

Masked and ready

First coat...

Peeling the dip...

Close up of the result

Done!

The stuff is amazing. I'm happy with the result.

Looks great, did you spray it on the body too and then peeled it off from around the letters?

I did the grill and emblems on my BMW and now I don't feel so bad.

I like the look.

Yep, just have to mask the general area. The plasti-dip peels off easily from the body as long as you get it on thick enough (I did 7 light coats). It naturally breaks at the seams between the letters and the body when peeling. The texture is very matt black, so it doesn't reflect light well, which is the effect I was after... it's black!

Looks great, I use it all the time. It protects the factory finish and if you don’t like it it’s no big deal to change back.

Looks good. I like the look of the old black accents on the old bellows bumpers 911s. I've considered changing my fender guards to black and going with black emblems.

Dip is no joke. If it comes down to painting a grille VS dip, dip is superior. Touches up easy, goes on great and it's reversible I've hit mine with pressurized water and it's sticking- looks completely OE on my car, been almost 6 mos. since I applied it and no chips, no fade.

Whatever you do, only use original Plasti-Dip- don't buy the Rustoleum stuff-it's trash- flakes off- <24 hours and one heat cycle.

Thanks. Actually, I just bagged the rear section (engine grille and part of the rear quarter panels). The plasti-dip spray can mist over a fairly large area if there is any breeze...

Interesting as I would have never given plasti-dip a thought to stuff like this. Immediately my Jeep plastic grills - upper and lower come to mind. I usually re-coat 2-3 times a year but of course it does not last.

I'm giving this suggestion 2 thumbs up!

Seriously, it bored me so it went bye-bye. Couldn't pass this up.

Too many nannies and nags for my liking, and frankly, it didn't quite like the way it drove. A bit twitchy for my tastes.

The V OTOH, I LOVE it.
