Food lines

There is a miles long line for a food bank in Florida...I notice a nice yellow camaro in the line, and I am sure the payments on the yellow camaro could buy a lot of food, but to each his priorities .

Being a giant resort economy focused on mass gatherings at beaches, amusement parks and cruise ships and largely populated by old people and dishonest contractors i'd say Fla is ****ed.

I've seen some very nice cars parked at the Armory when the State was giving out Govt cheese. Part of the problem with "poverty" in the USA is that the families "in poverty" have smart phones, big screen TVs, deluxe cable packages, and regular vacations. They smoke, drink, and go out to eat but can't seem to pay the rent. IMO giving those folks aid is just enabling them. I've had friends ask for financial help when they had a cell phone and cable. I had a landline and rabbit ears on the top of the TV (obviously a long time ago) and told them I'll help after they shut off the luxury items. No takers. What a surprise.

There are a few post themes that get posted over and over. Same thing, slightly different wording.
We should just number them. It would save a lot of typing. When someone wants to post something like this they could just type "#15" and get on with life.

Not long ago I saw a homeless guy on a corner looking for a hand-out. He was talking on a cell phone. Who pays for his plan..?

My issue is I know there are people out there who truly need the help and it really will only be temporary. I'm all for helping them out as needed... But how do you distinguish those from the professional slackers who've had years of training to blend in with the first group?

Anyone ever seen Shameless? It's hard not to imagine 95%+ of the people getting handouts being like that.

Awesome! Maybe the old geezer bashing younger generations could be #16 (general) and #17 for millennials. Maybe we could just move the original posts to a sub-forum with that number, so it would be out of the way like PARF.

That Camaro is also old enough to be paid off. If so, not many groceries being purchased with that $0 car payment.

Don't pick on the Camaro.
There's probably at least two dozen Escalades in the line.

Yesterday they had a free food giveaway at one of the mega churches. The line was miles long. The good news is it was miles from my area so it did not affect me at all. I bet a lot of the folks waiting in line burned more dollars in gasoline that the food was worth, and gas is dirt cheap now.

It boggles my mind that overnite it seems, so many people can't afford their rent or their food.

When I moved down south, I asked a guy where I can buy groceries.
He said "Food Line". I was confused.

https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/over-30-us-renters-didnt-pay-april-apartment-rent
Landlords across the country have been left in the lurch after nearly one-third of apartment renters in the US didn't pay any of their April rent during the first week of the month, according to new data from the National Multifamily Housing Council to be released Wednesday.

I have to think the number is very high for people that are 1 or 2 pay cheques away from being broke...

Most folks are VERY broke even when they are getting paid imo.

In debt up to their earballs
