I don't think Superman's thread should have been closed. I think the better solution is 1 week bans for people who fit into Captain Ahab's accurate portraiture.
I trust in Milt's discretion.

It was me. I offended by saying 911's would drop in value. The Hell you say!!

I am deeply confused, some of you seem to imply that it didn't start political, and that it was just a few that replied that made it political.
Is the locked thread simply responses pulled out of some other thread and put into OT and then locked? Because the original post that STARTED the thread has THIS under it. Quote:

Personally, I browse cars, if a car I really want goes into what I can afford, and I have space; I'll buy it.
I'm not too concerned with future values of cars as I already own cars I really enjoy. If something I want but do not have goes up, I'll just shop some other car. Take the Supra Turbo, a good example is way out of my present price range, perhaps it will always be out of my price range. However, the C5 Corvette was not. So I have a C5 Corvette and not a Supra. I'm happy with either one. If 911's stay higher than I want to spend, I won't buy one. Also, I notice as I get older, what I'm willing to spend goes up. I suppose the real question is about if the 911 upswing is a generational price swing similar to muscle cars; or is it longer lasting? The 911 has a multi-generational appeal. This in turn, changes the first question to be if younger set are acquiring the financial situation to keep the higher prices going on into the future. I think the air cooled cars are safe as it has a lot of appeal to what is currently appealing to the next generation "Steam Punk", I think they call it. It is just a matter of financial future for the younger generation. The water cooled 911's, I'm not so sure. Last edited by Tervuren; 11-28-2019 at 06:54 AM.. |

The OP trashed the thread............ up until the last two posts, it was a pretty good read.
What the heck is it with the "hurty feelers" on this site? |

It is really not that complicated.
One has to "want" to get it though. That thread started out doomed, crash and burn was its destiny. Whether by intention or error is open to debate. I am sure messages were exchanged. I am confident we have the right man for the job, thanks man

A great example of this is the Yahoo news stories that are followed by comments. A story about sports, finance, celebs, etc, will always have people trying to turn it into a political issue. Usually every third or fourth comment. Gets very tiring.

This place is just a bull session, right?. Anyone disagree? Some of you will throw around jabs against whatever sports team, some will throw jabs at individual poster here (who once cause butt hurt that you are still not over)... So what if Supe made some --as I read them, tongue-in-cheek-- political jabs. Apparently that makes him fair game to pile-on with how worthless his life is? c'mon, isn't it bad enough that he suffers so severely from TDS? Do ya all have to pile on top of that too? Happy T-day you

Unfortunately the written word can be one of the worst forms of communication. Written words can be and are interpreted differently by different folks. One man's harmless comment is another man's political insult. I am not a big fan of censorship. If something is posted you don't like, you can easily ignore it. If something on TV offends you, change the channel. Forum admins. have a lot of power over what is said. The last email I got from an admin. on 914world began "dear pathetic $hitbird". (I don't think he likes me) LOL. I would like to see everyone become less thin-skinned when it comes to posts they don't care for. I'm on a few aviation themed forums and one thing I like about them is, everyone uses their real name. Nobody hides behind a user name. There are less insults and name calling (almost never) when everyone knows what your real name is.

Personally, I don't care what anyone's name is, and prefer that people have the utility to put ideas out to stand, or fall, regardless of who says them.

Hey Elliot.. I just noticed this^. --funny. I mean that it's a preemptive ad hominem aimed at any who would use ad hominem against you.

Which pretty much makes my point. Some people might interpret my post much differently. I applaud those who have the "utility to put ideas out to stand, or fall". Personal insults and name calling while hiding behind a user name is a spineless thing to do.
