Quality Sunglasses At Non-Silly Prices?

I'm starting to wear contact lenses again and now I need some sunglasses. As with everything I buy, I want good ones - polarized, UV-blocking, sturdy frames, cool-looking. So, I go to the local Sunglass Hut and check out the shades. Oakleys, Ray-Bans, Carreras, Natives, there are lots of nice ones. BUT . . . what's with the prices???

Did someone pass a law that good sunglasses have to cost over $100?

Can anyone suggest a quality brand of sunglasses for about $50? Or a way to buy those $150 Oakleys for $50? I see a lot of choices on eBay but for all I know half of them could be Chinese knock-offs.

Dude... I have very sensitive eyes including night blindness.. One thing I don't cut corners on besides my P-car are my eyes.
Good sun glasses will protect your eyes and last a hell of allot longer than cheap ones. I'm a REVO guy myself definately worth the price.
I would never buy Shades off E-bay..

...definately worth the price.
Worth? What does "worth" mean? The sunglasses you see for $150 retail cost less than 1/10th that to make. And that's loaded cost. Read Oakley's 10-K sometime--selling designer sunglasses is like printing money.

Then, when that depresses you, we can talk about the $8 Nikes you're wearing.

The best way to buy heavily marketed, hugely marked-up consumer products (except Porsche parts, of course) is usually through unauthorized distribution channels.

I wear Oakleys, and I wear Nike sunglasses. The Nikes I paid $60 bucks for, and are great sunglasses. Oakleys have always been my Favorates, but you can buy those at $70 and up. I have a pair of $85 doller ones that fit very well, and block the UV`s very well.

I paid $85 for these

These I paid #90 for, they were on sale

These are sooooooo comforatable, and cheap.

I did too. But those lenses for me, dont do ****e. The Oakley`s and Nike`s dont get abused as the others do, so they do last.

I guess I'll use drugstore cheapies for daily and nice, sport-specific ones for, well, specific sports. Let's see, got the Bell shades for driving and the polarized fishing shades, and I don't do any other Sports, so I guess that solves my sunglasses problem. Thanks everyone for putting up with this topic. Next week: John goes shopping for TP.

some of the sunglass shops have "house" brands that have decent lenses for not so ridiculous prices. I've seen ones with Bausch & Lomb lenses for $50 or so.
