Did something stupid today

So I am working on the elevated deck on the back of our house . Basically remove old deck boards and replace with new . To save some steps I park my truck near the deck and throw the old boards in . Been doing that for over a month now with no issues .

So today I am continuing the work but on one " throw " it became the perfect storm . The board landed ........... bounced ......... rotated so the one nail was aimed perfectly at the rear glass . Yep it shattered the rear window 😫 what a stupid move on my part 😡 Oh well it is what it is I guess I may learn how to install a rear window !

Got to the third sentence and knew the ending without having to read it. Ah well, it happens.

Once had a truckload of steel shelving, angled to the rear somewhat. Hit the brakes, same issue, crap.

BTDT,

Loading firewood into the back of my truck, a little careless and boom... log thought the rear window.

Can't top my brother though.. He was loading his snowmobile onto his trailer, and drove it off the trailer, into the back of his Explorer .

Ran a lawnmower handle into the rear glass of my truck once. It happens.

Was loading a roll of carpet onto my pick up with my forklift. Didn’t realize that I had pushed the cardboard core out about four feet. Right through the back glass. A couple hundred dollar screw up.

Oops! Never lost a back window and that's surprising given my line of work.

I did have to replace the windshield once - came out one morning and had a crack in it.

I got Safelite to do the replacement - you may want to check them out for a quote, Rick.

Doesn’t seem so stupid to me. I would do the same as you. You just got some bad luck.

Found a new replacement glass on fleabay for $86.00 with free shipping . My truck has a simple glued in back glass with no defrost or slider . One tube of glass urethane adhesive and I should be good to go. I have never done glass but have seen it done , might be time to learn .

It was stupid because part of my work career I was trained in mistake proofing . I have several moving blankets less than 50 ' away . Just one draped over the roof and hanging down over the window would have prevented it . I was mad at myself but over it now .......... nothing is 100 percent except death and taxes 😁

Some reason I was expecting to see a picture of a 250 2 stroke! Glad it was only a window. :)

Along the lines of broken glass...

Played in a punk band in college. Pushed my azz through a window inadvertently as the stage was very small.

It happens.

Haha you have a good memory of one of my previous posts . I would not rule out that stupid event happening in the future 😁

A broken window? Ha I had a MCI and tried to get out of the hospital early, you got nuthin"!:D

Jims5543 12-04-2019 03:37 PM

My son used safelite for a window replacement on his E30 a few years ago, now he is dealing with rust due to an improperly sealed windshield.

Lesson learned use a good reputable shop that knows what they are doing, consult some local body shops they know who is good.

Now if only you had a Cyber truck. :D

I've used the 3M window urethane on side window for a Bobcat excavator. Not a bad process.

I love my headache rack. It was cheaper than the first, and second back glass that I broke

I was about to say that this thread is reminding me to order a headache rack.

Unless things have changed (which is possible) a new sliding back window is cheap, and they are supposed to be really easy to install (says someone that’s never done it). I think you’re supposed to be able to use string to flip the gasket through and that’s it.
