Edumicate me on pressurized growlers...

All:

Any experience with co2 charged growlers? I was considering one for weekends when I’d like to swing by One of the local growler stations, but I really don’t like flat beer, and that’s what always happens with glass growlers. There are several on the market- many seem to be offered in 64 & 128 oz sizes. I reckon I’d like to have both, one for just me & a bigger one for going to parties/events/having friends over. Growlerwerks make a cool looking one (resembles something hillbillies would use to make moonshine) but reviews seem mixed- then tend to leak & are tricky to clean. The ManCan has a cool design but not as cool as the werks unit.

Any thoughts/words of wisdom?

Cheers,

Paul.

I have a stainless steel growler..unpressurized. I hardly ever use it because of the trouble filling it.
When unable to see the level of beer or foam...the person filling it has a real tough time.
A few times, I found it to be about 2/3 full because of that. Just my opinion.

Ok, I didn’t know what the title of this thread meant and I was afraid to open it. Sounded really wrong.

Chill the growler and make sure they fill it at low pressure. If you chill it then toss it in a cooler with some ice to keep it cool for the journey, you should get a full growler which makes for happiness.

To the OP, I have no experience. I don't let my glass growlers set long enough for them to get flat. I like the looks of it though so I might have to buy one. Right now my carry around growler is a 5 gallon soda keg with a party tap and small Co2. I like the look of that second setup. The one in the first pic is sexy but how do you keep it carbonated? The one in the second pic appears to use a small Co2 cartridge like I do with my 5 gallon setup.

I have the mancan. While yes, it's awesome... It can sometimes be boring drinking 128 oz. So I prefer just to keep a 32 oz in my vehicle for quick fills that night.

I jumped on the Mancan Kickstarter campaign as soon as I saw it.. Was tired of the glass growlers.

I've got 1-128 oz, and 2-64 oz Mancan growlers plus the tap hardware...

Maybe its me but I never use the tap accessory anymore... 64 oz is less than a 6 pack.. so between me, my brother and friends..a growler rarely last the night..

FWIW, most of the growler fill places near me , you fill your own.. just fill until the fom clears.. put the stopper on.. and towel off the overrun ...

I toyed with getting the Growlerworks one.. bit after my experience with the Mancan I couldn't be bothered... In reality at the rate I and my friends family consume... the glass jug with a screw top is fine and cheap..

Also if you want you can get identical jugs to the Mancan from certain websites (Alibaba etc)

The CO2 cartridge fits inside the lid. That’s why you can’t see it. Some reviewers didn’t like that- one cartridge per fill and the cartridge dunked in your beer.

I looked into this exact topic but it seems they are all very hit or miss. Also most of our local breweries are now offering 32 Oz crowlers so its less of an issue.
