Stuck fuel line!

Making slow progress on my head swap for the Ram. I got to the point where the fuel line going to the fuel rail is not coming off. Trying to get this little SOB off right here with the plastic fuel line tool. I am not having any luck. Even with a friend pushing/pulling on the line I can't get it to release. What am I missing here?

Thanks

If you have access to air - you could try blowing some air inside the female fitting while rotating. If not not you could still rotate - push / pull line gently. Then push the line downward- insert the tool and pull upward. Also you may be working against fuel line pressure too. There may be Schrader fitting on the rail where you can depress and relieve that way. If not, identify the fuel pump fuse, remove it and crank the engine- that will relieve line pressure as well.

Good ideas from AG. What about the metal tool for the quick disconnect? I’ve found they work better than the plastic ones.

Usually on stuck connections, the red wrench, or a torch is the best way. That will get the connection off in short order!.

Well maybe not.

Good luck with it.

They can just be buggers sometimes. You can use a small pair of vice grips to give you a little bit more leverage on the fitting. Push it hard against the tool, and shove the tool in as hard as you can , then wiggle , twist , pry, push , pull , and swear .
Go to something else when you get mad. You've got lots of other bolts to twist . It will pop right off eventually .

Thanks guys - I'll give it another go after the rain let's up later this week. Appreciate the insight. Glen - I actually considered the sawzall method, then just replace the fuel line. Then I remembered there's the same kind of fitting on the tank

If I was a younger man I believe I might try that.

funny

I had one stuck the other day. There was a bunch of gunk/rusty stuff on the fitting. A little wire brush and pb blaster and it popper off. Good idea to, carefully, use vicegrips to get some leverage.

I'm not a shy man, but even after the wire brush and the PB Blaster I think I'd have given that one a dose of penicillin before pluggin' anything back in there.

I finally got the line off of the fuel rail today. I wedged the release tool up into the fitting as far as possible, then using two sets of pliers, applied leverage to the fuel line fitting and it popped off. Once it came off I saw the problem - one of the tabs was bent the wrong way which is what probably kept the tool from depressing the tab. I bent it back the correct way.

I got the intake off and started cleaning the top of the engine before we had to leave for another Christmas party so I'll continue disassembly tomorrow. Going slow and cleaning along the way.

It's not like an AC fitting is it (as in, needs a special tool to release the clips)?

He said it had tabs, so it's similar to and requires a similar tool, but it is not an ac line lock, which have springs inside the fitting.

Aha!

What has worked for me in the past is to buy several types or manufacturer models of the same tool. Line fittings can be stubborn lil SOBs. I apply Kroil, or in a pinch, power steering fluid to the connection. Then start to rotate. If you can rotate, then you're halfway there. Walk it off the rest of the way.

You might consider replacing the fitting tab(s) that are bent the wrong way.s
