Steel or nylon?
I have a double car garage with one wood door (the sucker it heavy). It is old but everything works. The rollers wear out and I have to replace them regularly due to wobbling (bearings?).
I get replacements at Lowes but they don't last more than a year or so. I've seen nylon 13 bearing instead of steel 10 bearing online. Are they any more durable? Supposedly the nylon is quieter but I've found when the rollers get loose they get noisy so I don't know that the nylon will make much difference.

Have you tried commercial door rollers? At work we have 14 foot tall double wide metal and glass doors and the wheels rarely wear out.

I'm not sure what you mean by commercial door rollers. I don't want to spend a ton to re-engineer the system since the door is old. I just want to replace the rollers a little as possible.

I think you are missing the point, it sounds like you need to buy better quality rollers. Something like this, https://www.endurancehardware.com/2-stainless-carwash-roller

I have an old solid wood two car garage door and one of the springs just broke last week. The garage door guy replaced everything ( was expensive but guaranteed it for 7 more years). He used nylon rollers and it is SO quiet now...did sound like the freight train someone mentioned above. BTW, I saw a thing on TV about hurricanes (which my location is subject to) and the garage door is apparently one of the first things to go. Then once the wind gets inside, it's trouble. Makes me happy I've got the 700 lb wood door!

Those Lowes rollers, while not great...are likely perfectly OK for most of today's "consumer grade" automatic garage doors - which tend to be very lightweight.

I have a three car garage, and one door it two cars wide, one is a single car. That single car door gets the most use by far. It is my parking spot for the El Camino, and 95% of the time when we go somewhere it is in the Elky. Also we have the keypad on that door, and we use that door to go in and out to that side of the house, and most outdoor chores.
I had the opener mechanism replaced with the wall mounted opener that turns the metal shaft of the door. It is super quiet, and gives me more room for my floor lift to raise a car since the opener is out of the way. The guy that installed it, replaced all the rollers on both doors, and moved the tracks up tighter to the ceiling to give that single door more room when the door is open to raise the cars. Bottom line he used aluminum rollers with ball bearings. They get a lot of use and remain quiet after many years.
